Sonic To Launch New Live Music Magazine


Sonic to launch new live music magazine

Thursday 16 May 2002: Sonic Marketing, the UK’s largest music marketing solutions company, today announced that it will be publishing the first national publication aimed at specifically targeting concert goers and live music fans within the UK.

‘UK Live’, will be a monthly title produced in conjunction with the Concert Promoters’ Association (CPA), the official body for the live music industry within the UK. It will be accredited with the title ‘Official CPA Magazine’ and it will be launched during the summer of 2002.

UK Live will provide an authoritative resource offering a mixture of news, previews and reviews of live music events within the UK. The live event industry generates approximately £760m revenue per year* and continues to grow incrementally with over 5% of the UK population attending live concerts on a regular basis each year.

Until now music event organisers have had to use traditional media to target live music fans but with the launch of ‘UK Live’ they will be able to target this audience in a far more direct and effective manner. The magazine, which may be offered as a subscription title, will also focus on building a wireless and email database of these event-going customers through reader competitions and promotions.

Sonic hopes to distribute the magazine with the assistance of the National Arenas Association, leading national travel organisations, and through further opportunities identified by Sonic and the members of the CPA.

UK Live will be the third title to be published by the Sonic Publishing group, which currently publishes Slant for Virgin Megastore customers and Internet Exchange magazine, a customer magazine for the leading Internet café chain.

Commenting on the announcement Rebecca Lancashire, Managing Director at Sonic, said: "The Magazine is a new and original concept within the publishing market. Its aim is to address the music loving audience in an exciting, entertaining and informative manner.

“We are currently compiling a database of companies and brands who are interested in accessing this market as sponsors or partners " Miss Lancashire continued.

Stuart Littlewood, Chairman of the CPA, added: “ We have been wanting to launch a magazine for the live music audience for many years but we have been waiting to team up with a suitable partner. Sonic have a wealth of experience within the music environment and we believe they are the right company to help us develop a successful title to access our core target market.’

The Magazine will have a pagination of 52 pages and a projected initial print-run of 100,000 that will increase to 250,000 within the first year.

Rebecca started her career in Investment Banking with Chase Manhattan, where she worked both in London and New York in Structured Corporate Finance. She moved to Virgin in 1995 and was responsible for new business development in Virgin's media department. She worked with Virgin Radio, running the international radio division, where she was responsible for Virgin's investment in The Film Consortium, and raised over $100 million in financing for V2, Richard Branson's new record label.
