@DeeZystep Is A Positive Conscious Indie Rapper And Producer From The Bay Area #musicmoney Catches Up With Him

@DeeZystep is a positive conscious indie rapper and producer from the Bay area
DeeZystep is a “positive conscious” indie rapper and producer from the Bay - San Lorenzo, CA to be exact. He aims to enrich and uplift people’s lives through hip hop and get the masses in their feelings, challenging everyone to move and think simultaneously.

The vibe: think Common over a Mr. Carmack beat, with a sprinkle of Nujabes influence.

His latest song “Once in a While” preaches an honest, hopeful message over a smooth, soulful beat; taking inspiration from people working to come up from the struggles of everyday life, smiling & seeking light in the face of despair. The track is dedicated to his brother Brandon Ocasion, and features on DeeZystep’s album “Surreality” released January 19, 2018.

Q. Where are you from?

A. San Lorenzo, CA. It’s a small suburban town between cities near Oakland, in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Q. Describe your sound:
A. I call it “positive conscious hip hop.” My sound is a blend of different time periods and styles of hip hop beats influenced by many genres and cultures, with deeply lyrical rap vocals that vary from thoughtful, smooth and melodic; to rhythmic, intense and in your face.

Q. Tell us about your latest track:

A. “Once in a While” is a song about struggling to keep a smile on your face through pain, staying on the grind looking for better times when life is beating you down. Everyone can relate to experiencing problems, issues and hardships in different ways – I just want to give them a voice of hope, and a positive alternative for their mindset. I felt like an emotional boom-bap type of vibe would be the best beat to match the mood; I dedicated this song to my late older brother Brandon Ocasion, and he loved oldschool hip hop.

Q. Who inspires you?

A. S!REN, Nujabes, Mr. Carmack, Cise Star, Omar LinX, Common, old school and new wave rap and electronic, groovy funk and soul jams, Soulection, the Gorillaz, local artists, anyone helping anyone, my older brother Brandon Ocasion.

Q. Where do you see your career in 5 years?

A. Within 5 years I plan to release at least 5 more albums, collaborate with other positive conscious artists reaching huge audiences, make a sustainable living from music to support my family, make a lasting positive social and political impact both in my local Bay Area community and worldwide, and perform an international tour! The world tour is mostly because I want to try every culture’s food.

Q. Where can we check out your sounds?

A. Google me! I can be found under “DeeZystep” almost everywhere online: iTunes, Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more. Or check out my website

Q. Tell us something about yourself that the people need to know.

A. I write, produce, record, mix, master, release, promote and perform all my own music independently. Meaning all the costs come out of my pocket, and I rely on the support of my amazing family, friends and fans to spread my music. I hella appreciate the connections I get to network and share experiences with every day, like you!

Q. So what next?

A. More music coming up next! I released this first official music video a few weeks ago, and my album “Surreality” just dropped everywhere. Time to work on the next project. Much love fam, thanks for listening, have an amazing day!
