SKYGGE TEAM UP WITH KIESZA AND STROMAE ON 'HELLO SHADOW'
A creative force to be reckoned with, French collective SKYGGE led by composer, author and producer Benoit Carré assemble a roster of stars including Canadian chart-topper Kiesza ad Belgian pop sensation Stromae on their debut single ‘Hello Shadow’.
Composed by Stromae, top-notch production team The BIONIX and SKYGGE using Artificial Intelligence tools, the song is the first single taken from ‘Hello Shadow’, the multi-artist upcoming album which sees the collective using AI to create new and compelling music, instead of mere lab demos.
“When Stromae and SKYGGE sent me the melody I felt that it sounded different from anything I’ve ever heard before. It’s catchy and hunting”, explains viral pop sensation Kiesza. While talking about the tech side of the project Stromae says “it is a similar transition we had between acoustic and electric instruments. Tomorrow, we will all be making music this way.”
Loosely inspired by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale ‘Skyggen”, the visuals accompanying the single are directed by Olivier Bayu Gandrille - also responsible for the striking videos of France's latest rising star Adam Naas. Depicting the story of a shadow child incarnating into human form and her extraordinary journey discovering her newly developed senses and bodily structure.
SKYGGE is the story of metamorphoses; from music to data, from neuron networks to musical notes, and from a scientific project to a pop-music album. Born from the creative minds of Benoit Carré a.k.a. SKYGGE and François Pachet. The latter is a leading expert on the application of Artificial Intelligence in the world of popular music. Whilst Benoit Carré makes songs for French stars like Françoise Hardy, Johnny Halliday and Imany, as well as produces his own music. Sharing the same taste for melodic, harmonic and timbre twists, that make pop songs catchy and compelling, the two friends brought together their different creative background and experiences to explore new creative sparks; one wants to capture them, the other wants to provoke them.
‘Hello Shadow’ is the first taste of SKYGGE upcoming album, which epitomizes the unique sound and intensely creative nature that makes this a landmark music project in the history of technology and music creation.
The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Research Council under the European Union's Seventy Framework Programme (EP7/2007-2013 Grant Agreement no.291156) and has been conducted by Francois Pachet at Sony Computer Science Laboratories Paris （Sony CSL Paris) and Pierre and Marie Curie University (UPMC).
