Chris Brown Features Julian Blake Ray’s Song “EVEN” On New Album Heartbreak On A Full Moon

Multi-Platinum Singer and Rapper Chris Brown released his much-awaited new album Heartbreak On A Full Moon with a track from Philadelphia’s own Julian Blake Ray (a.k.a. Blake Winters) October 31. Originally written and recorded at Rotation Records, which is located in Norristown, PA, Ray’s “Even” is a nostalgic song talking about the regrets that come along with failed love. It incorporates a sample from Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time” and features Ray’s background vocals, which were left on the final version that is on Brown’s album.

Ray, a notable singer-songwriter in the industry who works primarily out of the Rotation Records studios and has several songs published by high profile artists, is the co-owner of Good Thief Music along with Philadelphia based songwriting partner Yufi Zewdu. Together, the two own and operate the production and songwriting company that was created when Ray and Zewdu started collaborating at Rotation Records.

Through Good Thief Music, Ray was first introduced to Brown in 2016 after he was invited to New York to meet with him about several of the songs he wrote. As they spent more time together, Brown had heard Ray’s version of “Even” and then decided that he would record it for his new record. Since that time, Brown and Good Thief Music have written several more together on a subsequent trip to LA. Along with “Even,” which was produced by Laney Stewart, Brown has also recorded several other songs by Good Thief Music and collaborated with Ray in the studio on other unreleased music.

“It’s exciting that the very first vocals you hear are Blake’s and then more of his vocals are strewn throughout the rest of the song and left untouched from the original version,” said Joe Staiber, CEO of Rotation Records. “The fact that ‘Even’ was originally written and recorded right here in Norristown at Rotation Records makes it that much better.”

“Even” can be downloaded on iTunes or wherever digital music is sold.
