Celebrated rock & roll biographer Mark Bego returns to the scene with his 62nd published book, “Eat Like a Rock Star” (Skyhorse Publishing) on October 17, 2017: his first cookbook. Although he has been cooking all of his life, the idea of combining his love of rock music and food came to him in 2013, the cookbook started out as a food blog, with its aim being a full book. In “Eat Like a Rock Star” Bego personally received recipes from 46 rock stars and turned it into a book of 118 incredible culinary creations.

A lover of all musical genres, Bego’s most recent music biography was “Life with My Father: Glen Campbell,” written with the artist’s oldest daughter Debby, which was a Top Ten best-seller in Nashville daily newpaper “The Tennessean.”

“I have been interviewing rock stars since the 1970’s. Whenever I did an interview with someone like Boz Scaggs, or Micky Dolenz, or Marilyn McCoo, the conversation often turned to food. It occurred to me that I could create a revealing behind the scenes look at what the rock stars cook, eat, and mix to drink,” says Bego.

In the new book, Bego features recipes from the likes of former-Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman (Lamb Chops with Endive Salad), ’N SYNC’s Joey Fatone (Rice Balls), Michelle Phillips (Organic Lemon Chicken), Sarah Dash from Labelle (Peach Cobbler), Randy Jones of The Village People (Caprese Bruschetta with Prosciutto), and Michael McDonald (Pasta with Ham, Peas, and Parmesan Cheese).

Monkees-star Micky Dolenz (whose “I’m A Believer” book was written with Bego) is represented with his signature ‘Micky D’ cocktail. Also featured in the book are: Rita Coolidge (Collard Greens & Kale), Debbie Gibson (Coconut Biscuits), Tiffany (Lebanese Cinnamon Chicken), Richie Sambora (Mint Juleps), Thelma Houston (“Better Than Sex” Cake), and Tanya Tucker (Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Chip Cookies).

Adds Bego, “I resisted the temptation to have gimmick-laden things like rock star marijuana brownies in the book. Although this is a dramatically fun and colorful rock & roll book, it is also a serious cookbook, with recipes that range from ‘easy’ to ‘challenging.’ As it always is with rock stars, even the food in this book is big, bold, and very exciting. I should know I compiled the recipes; I made all the food, and photographed all of the food. This way I can honestly say, ‘If I can cook this incredible food, you can too!’”
“Eat Like a Rock Star” features more than a hundred recipes from seven decades of rock & roll, pop, country, R&B, and disco. Mark Bego, along with his friend Mary Wilson of The Supremes (who wrote the Introduction), gathers beloved recipes from legendary rocker friends, and invites the ultimate music fan to put on an apron and join them at the table. The book features each rock star’s biography, their favorite recipes, and lots of fun facts and cooking tips. It also contains recipes by Tommy James, Ray Parker Jr., Freda Payne, Sean Lennon, and dozens more. In addition, each of the book’s ten chapters have some of Bego’s own kitchen creations, to prove he can cook too!
