10 QUESTIONS Interviews Indie Artist Possimiste

About Possimiste:

Possimiste is a young, on-the-rise alt-pop artist based in Iceland. Her “fairy-tale” pop sound embodies her quirky, new-age/hippie spirit. Listeners are entranced by her whimsical world. Her music has been in videos for Vogue, Wall Street Journal, Design Within Reach and many more. Now, Possimiste is working on her debut album, hoping to grace listeners in the near future.

Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.

I am endlessly thankful to be born into a family where my parents really cared and listened. I was a 3-year-old girl I when announced my parents that I was going to connect my life with music and singing. They listened and signed me up for a singing school. Since then making up songs has been a natural part of my life. A couple of years later when I got a cassette player, I realized I could not let the songs disappear and would spend my days recording improvised songs with the same player.

Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?

It was how I played my first Possimiste show. I flew to Slovakia and knew I was going to play some songs on the radio. But it was not until the car stopped in front of this huge building when I realized it was the national radio and thousands of people would be listening to me performing my songs for the very first time...It has been one of the most fun days in my life so far and since then I have been more attracted to the unknown than ever before. That day I discovered that fear and excitement are made of the same clay....and it's totally up to us if we want to make a fear monster or excitement butterfly out of it...or transform the fear monster into a butterfly.

What has been the high point of your music path?

Here and now. I believe present is always the highest place we can ever be on our creative journeys. If I stop for a moment then my present really is a beautiful place. There is only one chance for us, musicians, to experience how it feels to have you first and imperfect version of your first album in your headphones, excited to trust it into the hands of...It's like having a bunch of dirty and messy-haired kids running around your house waiting to be showered, dressed, haircombed by mr X. You know that they will be the same kids you have always known but are so excited to see how they would look like in their new beautiful clothes, ready to step into the world.
