Vancouver, BC, June 20, 2017 – Music Heals wants to put one lucky band on stage at the Honda Celebration of Light. Music Heals has launched Covers for the Cause, a platform where artists and fans join together to raise funds for various music therapy programs, by fan-driven requests for artists to perform specific covers.  Donations are made directly to the artist’s donation page on Music Heals and the Honda Celebration of Light announce a collaboration where the artist raising the most donations by midnight July 16th will perform on Wednesday August 2nd at The Park Stage at Second Beach.

Covers For The Cause provides a platform for artists to offer their fans personalized videos of songs that they request by making a tax-deductible donation to Music Heals, creating a new way for artists to engage their fans AND raise money for music therapy in Canada. The Wednesday August 2nd lineup already includes David Morin, Kutapira, Mob Bounce, and headliners The Boom Booms.

“We’ve listened to artists who have told us that they are looking for creative ways to give back” says Music Heals Executive Director Chris Brandt. “Music Heals supporters are, first and foremost, music fans. This puts the musician and the fan in direct contact, for the purpose of supporting music therapy for kids, seniors, palliative care, dementia, and more.” Musicians offer their time and their art to their fans that make a donation, and fundraise through the shared appreciation of the power of music.

Musicians and music fans can visit to offer and make requests now. Over 25 artists have already signed up!

Artists select the minimum donation amount for which they will take requests, and decide how many covers requests they will fulfill. They then record simple videos of the cover songs requested and include a dedication to the donor - posting those videos on the band’s YouTube page, or sending them directly to the fan to post on theirs. There’s no need to hire a film crew. Artists use their phone video camera and record their performances anywhere – in a rehearsal space, a living room, or any unique space. One was recorded in a gondola going up the side of a mountain!

Music Heals previously offered this campaign exclusively with Vancouver band The Matinee, who raised over $3,000 in the summer of 2014 and created 18 video requests like this one.

Artists that raise at least $1,000 can direct that donation to a music therapy program in their home city or province.
