Kargo To Provide First Bob Marley Ringtones For North American Market; Company Signs With Blue Mountain Music And Bob Marley Music
Website: http://www.kargo.com Kargo Offers Classic Marley Song Master Tones From ‘Africa Unite’ 60th Birthday Concert; First Major Mobile Deal for Marley Song Content Features Marley Family Performances FOR RELEASE: MONDAY, JUNE 19, 2006 NEW YORK– Kargo, a leading mobile content distribution firm in the United States, today announced that it has signed the first North American mobile distribution deal for Bob Marley mobile content, including images, ringbacks, and ringtones. The arrangement between Kargo, Blue Mountain Music and Bob Marley Music, Inc. entitles Kargo to distribute Bob Marley content to carriers in North America, and via third-party mobile distribution portals, including Kargo’s FeverMobile.com portal. Kargo is the only mobile content company today that has the rights to bring Bob Marley content to the North American market. Kargo reached the distribution deal through negotiations with Blue Mountain Music, the publishing company for Marley, and with Bob Marley Music Inc. The deal includes distribution of master tones of classic Marley tunes, as performed by the Marley family at the 2005 Africa Unite concert in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on February 6, 2005, Bob Marley’s 60th birthday. The deal also provides for polyphonic ringtones and classic images. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Kargo will distribute Marley content, including the Marley family’s versions of songs such as ‘Could You Be Loved,’ ‘Buffalo Soldier,’ ‘Is This Love?,’ as well as Bob Marley images for wallpapers and downloads, to Tier 1 and Tier 2 mobile carriers in the U.S. and Canada, as well as through independent, third-party mobile content portals. “Bringing the songs of Bob Marley to mobile users has been long overdue, and we look forward to distributing ringtones that will instantly conjure up the spirit of one of the world’s greatest musical icons,” said Harry Kargman, CEO of Kargo. “Bob Marley’s songs are essential to the mobile music airscape, and we hope to ‘stir up’ North America with ringtones from his most enduring hits.” “The Bob Marley catalog will now reach a new generation of listeners who may be hearing his music for the first time on their cellphones,” said Cedella Marley, CEO of Bob Marley Music. “We’re pleased to make our entry into the mobile music market in North America with Kargo, and we look forward to further extending Bob Marley’s legacy through the growing wireless experience.” Kargo has officially relaunched the company with an impressive roster of branded entertainment customers and partners which, in addition to Getty Images, includes US Weekly, Premiere, Weekly World News and other magazines. Kargo will also introduce its own direct-to-consumer Web site for wireless content, FeverMobile.com, which will feature original Kargo-developed and owned content, as well as jointly produced and distributed content. Kargo’s technology platform for mobile content has become, in the past year, one of the most prominent in the media industry. The company has distribution deals with a wide range of carriers, including Cingular Wireless, Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile, and Alltel, among others. Kargo has developed its own proprietary applications, including Red Carpet (celebrity news and photos), Game Day (comprehensive sports coverage), and FEVER (one of the leading mobile content portals in the U.S., with more than 1,000,000 unique shoppers to date).
