The Black Eyed Peas Launch The First International Initiative For The Peapod Foundation In South Africa
The Black Eyed Peas will launch their first international philanthropic initiative for The Peapod Foundation in South Africa this week. Fulfilling a promise made two years ago to the people of South Africa, will.i.am and The Black Eyed Peas will perform a free benefit concert for over 30,000 people at Johannesburg Stadium at Ellis Park, presented by Miller Genuine Draft. To ensure tickets are distributed to many people who might not otherwise be able to participate in a concert event of this magnitude, alliances have been implemented with newspapers throughout the region in conjunction with a manual distribution system within local townships. An SMS ticket campaign was also used to distribute a portion of the tickets, as well as raise money for The Adopt-a-School Foundation to support their mission to provide an environment conducive to quality education for all South African children. Adopt-a-School is administered by the Shanduka Foundation, as part of their comm! unity program. In addition to the free show for the people, funds and awareness are being raised in many ways. All monies collected from the SMS ticket campaign, as well as proceeds from the VIP/Fundraiser Official After Party hosted by Miller Genuine Draft and The Adopt-a-School Foundation, will be donated to The Adopt-a-School Foundation. The Peas will also spend time in South Africa this week visiting local townships and youth centers, where they will participate in workshops with children that are designed to inspire them to realize their dreams. To conclude their visit with the highest of honors, The Black Eyed Peas look forward to a private meeting with Nelson Mandela early next week to discuss their commitment to the children of South Africa. The Peapod Foundation is The Black Eyed Peas' charity that encourages social change by uniting people through the universal language of music. The Peapod Foundation is dedicated to providing opportunities and support for children who suffer worldwide.
