Roger O'donnell Former Musician Of The Cure Announces Release Of His Solo Album The Truth In Me
Former member of the groundbreaking band The Cure keyboardist, Roger O'Donnell has announced that he is launching a record label entitled 99 X Out Of Ten out of London, England. The launch of the label is also happening in conjunction with the release of his sophomore solo album, The Truth in Me, on May 16th, 2006. On The Truth in Me, Roger O'Donnell mixes his extraordinary songwriting with the warm and crisp quality of his eclectic sound, ready to hold any audience spellbound. The album which was composed entirely on a Moog Synthesizer, features 10 songs, with three of them complemented by the beautiful singing voice of Erin Lang. Jimmy Tamborello of The Postal Service is remixing the album's first single "The Truth in You," and Martin Gretschmann, the keyboard player from The Notwist, is remixing another track off the album, entitled "Treasure." "This album represents exactly where I am in my life and my music. I couldn't have made it before, it is who I am now. A synthesis of everything I have ever played and heard, all the influences from Herbie Hancock to Bjork, recorded on an instrument that moves and inspires me." The concept of the album came from a trip O'Donnell took to the Sheffield International Film Festival in November 2004 to give a talk about "Moog", a documentary based on the life of Robert Moog, who invented and built electronic musical instruments for over half a century that changed the way music sounded as we know it. O'Donnell, who is endorsed by Moog, made the trip with the film's producer, Ryan Page, and the idea emerged of having Roger complete an album composed and performed entirely on a Moog Voyager. Fourteen songs later, The Truth in Me was complete. In addition to his new solo album, Roger O'Donnell recently released a compilation album titled "Nothing Concrete," featuring 9 unsigned artists whom he discovered. KCRW's Nic Harcourt recently debuted a track by O'Donnell on the compilation, "Another Name" on the Morning Becomes Eclectic program. The album is currently available on itunes. O'Donnell said of the compilation: "My plan was to release a sampler featuring unsigned talent and the bands we found are incredible. Each are very unique in sound, yet coming together on this record to make an album of songs that work perfectly together." He added, "I found the process fascinating and amazingly expressive for me. The label is really an extension of that, helping to bring interesting and new music to people, and help bands be heard that never otherwise would have."
