"Lilith - The Rock Opera" Set For January Release
True Classical CDs announces the January 11 release of "LILITH - The Rock Opera," Thomas Kugler's second rock opera featuring 30 musicians and singers, including members of Fang of Love, Pigmy Love Circus, W.A.C.O., Listing Ship, and Soho Vamp. A 24-song double-CD set, LILITH is the Creation story retold with the addition of Lilith, the first woman designed to be Adam's wife. Coming to life as a spellbinding seductress, God instead condemns Lilith to Hell to join Satan as his bride. Lilith and Satan then conspire to bring about Adam and Eve's fall from grace, but ultimately cannot destroy their faith in true love, although Lilith will forever haunt our dreams as an eternal spirit of temptation. Based on a classic 19th-century play by influential French symbolist writer and philosopher Rémy de Gourmont, the timeless story is told entirely in song. LILITH is a fascinating conceptual work blending a witch's brew of hard-hitting electric and orchestral instruments, rock singing and operatic motifs, creating a wholly unique "electric baroque" sound. "LILITH is to the Old Testament what ŒJesus Christ Superstar' was to the New Testament," says Kugler. "It's a long-form rock musical in the tradition of ŒThe Rocky Horror Picture Show,' The Who's ŒTommy' and ŒQuadrophenia,' and other great rock operas from the '60s and '70s." Rock operas and concept albums are currently enjoying a popular revival with the success of "Rent," "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" and Green Day's "American Idiot." With orchestrations by Steve Gregoropoulos and co-production by Justin Burrill (both of W.A.C.O.), LILITH achieves high standards in artistry and production values. Kugler co-produces and plays guitar throughout as well as voicing a supporting character. The leading roles are sung by actors with extensive credits in musical theatre and opera, including Jeffrey Stackhouse, Sierra Rein, John Szura, Tom Mesmer, and Samantha Dunn. A riveting blend of music and drama, LILITH is also currently in development for dramatic interpretation, with scripts existing for both stage and screen presentations. The stage show will debut in Hollywood's Write Act Repertory Company in early 2006, in association with the Hollywood Civic Light Opera.
