"Who's Who" Honoree Missy Elliott Nabs AMA For "Favorite Female Artist, Rap/Hip-Hop"
Five-time Grammy Award winner Missy Elliott is finishing out 2005 with a bang. Elliott, who is included in the 2006 edition of "Who's Who In America," took home the American Music Award for "Favorite Female Artist, Rap/Hip-Hop" during last week's live telecast from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. This is just the second time this award has been presented and Elliott has won both times. Elliott, who is still recuperating from a very painful Achilles tendon repair surgery, will travel to South Africa next to appear at the Kora African Music Awards. Elliott returns to the states in mid-December to shoot the video for "We Run This," the third single from her current album, The Cookbook, which debuted earlier this year in the #2 spot on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. On December 10, Elliott will perform "Lose Control" and "We Run This" at the 2005 Spike TV Video Game Awards, which were taped on November 18 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA. The Video Game Awards will be hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, and will feature appearances by 50 Cent, Charlize Theron, The Rock, Vin Diesel, and Tony Hawk, among others. Missy Elliott is the best-selling female hip-hop artist of all time. Her many accolades include 17 MTV award nominations, three BET Awards, and five Lady of Soul/Soul Train Awards. Not only a visionary recording artist and performer, Elliott is one of the few women who enjoy an equal amount of success behind the scenes. As a prolific songwriter and producer, she has acquired a star-studded list of production credits that includes Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, and Destiny's Child, among others. As the head of her own record label, The Goldmind, Inc., she launched the career of platinum-selling R&B star Tweet. Elliott wrapped up the first season of her dramality show, UPN's The Road To Stardom with Missy Elliott, earlier this year, and she has created a unique joint venture with Adidas for a line of clothing, shoes, and accessories under the moniker, Respect ME. The Cookbook marks Elliott's sixth full-length release since making her solo debut in 1997.
