Since their inception in January 2004, 3 Kisses has had an altruistic mission to support breast cancer education, research and treatment programs. Says front woman, Tish Meeks, “When Tony and I started 3 Kisses, we wanted the music to be about more than just ‘us’. We wanted to use our talents and abilities to serve our community and breast cancer hits close to home for both of us. I lost my mother to the disease in 1989 and Tony’s mother and step-mother are both breast cancer survivors. Melissa and AJ both have friends and family members affected by breast cancer, as well. In fact, I know very few people who have not been impacted by it in one way or another.”

In November 2004, 3 Kisses had the pleasure of playing the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Austin, TX for almost 20,000 race participants. “Our first release, Wings, wasn’t out yet,” says Tony, “so we brought about 300 demos. The runners mobbed us when Tish made the announcement that we were giving away demos. They were gone in about 30 seconds.” The response from the race participants was so overwhelming that Entertainment Chair, Beverly Kassman, extended an invitation to 3 Kisses to perform at the 2005 event. Thanks to Beverly's and Volunteer Coordinator, Lisa Feller's recommendations, 3 Kisses was given the opportunity by Sonya De Hoyos to entertain close to 20,000 runners again at this year’s race on November 6.

3 Kisses followed up the Komen Austin race with a smaller, but no less important benefit for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. On November 21, 2004 they played for over 2,000 people at the Motive Bison Stampede in Austin, TX, at the invitation of Mark Rutherford, former Austin Indie Alliance Vice-President, along with other Austin Indie Alliance bands, Dinkum, freebleeder, Motionside and Full Service. Word traveled fast and in April 2005, 3 Kisses was invited by Nancy Goodnight to play the Central Texas Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Waco, TX for over 9,000 participants. Again, the response was so overwhelming; Ms. Goodnight sent 3 Kisses an immediate invitation to play the Central Texas Komen Race again in 2006.

On October 15, thanks to Maggie Cole, Susan Alterman and Sue Greta, 3 Kisses performed for the largest number of breast cancer supporters to date. They had the honor of performing for close to 35,000 participants at the Dallas, TX, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Says Tish, “This is a very humbling experience for me. I am proud to honor my mother, Beverly Trimmer, who lost her life at the age of 42 to breast cancer, by being so closely associated with the Susan G. Komen affiliates in Texas.”

In addition to playing these events, 3 Kisses has also performed at the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Brenham, TX and LaGrange, TX this year and will perform this month at two GoGirls Music Fest Benefits for the Lynne Cohen Ovarian Cancer Foundation at Club DaDa in Dallas, TX, and at Trophy’s in Austin, TX. Tish Meeks had a story published in the January 2005 release, Chicken Soup for the Recovering Soul detailing how her mother’s death has shaped her life. The story, entitled Legacy was written under the name Letitia Trimmer Meeks. Tish and Tony, who is the director of Southern Care Hospice in College Station, TX, give away copies of the books to the families of hospice patients. 3 Kisses CD, Wings, is available for purchase on their website at www.3kisses.com and at www.cdbaby.com/3kisses. A portion of all CD sales go to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation and/or the American Cancer Society.
