Mark Hoppus Leads The Pod Squad With His New Podcast Series
Blink-182's Mark Hoppus never goes anywhere without his iPod. Now, his fans don't have to go anywhere without him, as Hoppus launches "Hi, My Name is Mark," the singer/bassist's new Podcast series which premieres. "The whole thing is very 'Wayne's World,'" says Hoppus of his amusingly lo-tech approach to this hi-tech venture. "The show feels like at any second the wheels may fall off." Podcasting is a relatively new media broadcast form in which audio files (usually in MP3 format) are made available for easy download. Each 20-some-minute-long edition of "Hi, My Name is Mark" can be found on the Apple Web site. The premiere episode of "Hi, My Name is Mark" contains songs from Mark's favorite new and established bands, among them Motion City Soundtrack (Hoppus produced their new Epitaph Records CD) and the Descendents (an all time fave). The debut will also feature an interview with Andrew Kenny of American Analog Set, as well as all kinds of running commentary from Mark. "Hi, My Name is Mark" will be promoted on the Apple site, the Atticus clothing site, Blink182.com and himynameismark.com. Mark will produce additional Podcasts to be available bi-weekly. Stay tuned, "Future shows will be chock full of celebrity gossip," jokes Hoppus. In Hoppus musical news, blink-182 will put out a "Greatest Hits" CD Nov. 1. Songs featured on the album include: "M&Ms," "Dammit," "Josie," "What's My Age Again," "All The Small Things," "Adam's Song," "Man Overboard," "Rock Show," "First Date," "Stay Together For The Kids," "Feeling This," "Miss You," "Down," "Always," the bonus track "Not Now" (recorded during the "blink-182" sessions) and "Another Girl Another Planet" (the theme from the MTV series "Meet The Barkers"). The DVD includes numerous classic blink-182 videos. Mark is currently working on material for his new band +44.
