Ne-Yo Inks Music Publishing Deal With Zomba
Ne-Yo shot to fame earlier this year as the songwriter for R&B star Mario’s “Let Me Love You” (J Records). The song was number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles and Tracks chart in January, propelling his album, "Turning Point," to platinum in the U.S. “Let Me Love You” was also a huge international hit. The young songwriter is currently in the studio with Beyonce, working on the soundtrack to her forthcoming film "Pink Panther" (a re-make of the 1964 Peter Sellers classic) and will also collaborate with the Destiny’s Child superstar on her forthcoming solo record, the follow-up to her four-time platinum debut, "Dangerously In Love" (Columbia Records). Also in the works for Ne-Yo is the new single for Capitol Records artist Javier (“Dance For Me”) and tracks on forthcoming albums from Heather Headley (September release on J Records), Ruben Studdard (J Records) and American Idol finalist Mario Velazquez (J Records). He will also soon begin work on Mario’s next record. Ne-Yo will make his own bid for recording artist superstardom with the September 13 release "In My Own Words" on Def Jam Records. Ne-Yo was signed to the label earlier this year by its chief Antonio “L.A.” Reid. “It’s a rare gift in the life of a music publisher to be able to work with a young artist who has a vision as a songwriter outside of his own recording career,” said Zomba Music Publishing’s Blakeman. “In just a few short months, he already has over 39 songs being recorded by other artists! Each has a distinct personality, and no matter what the subject matter, he brings a very classy signature sound to it. Ne-Yo’s got the charm and charisma of a star from the 1940s, the work ethic of a Brill Building writer from the 1960s, and a fresh delivery that keeps his songs on the current charts….He’s one of those timeless gifted writers who writes the kind of song you want to keep hearing again and again, the kind of melody you want to sing and lyrics that you find yourself quoting in random conversations.” Commented Ne-Yo on the deal: “I am honored and pleased to be part of the Zomba Music Publishing team. Jennifer was a key part in bringing me to Zomba and I am excited about our future.”
