Natives of the New Dawn - Emergenza 2005 International Finalist

DETROIT — Surviving the first three Detroit heats, the Natives of the New Dawn prepared for Emergenza’s U.S. Finals in Boston over this past weekend. After the completion of the bands first 4 dates on this summer’s Van’s Warped Tour, the group gathered up their equipment and caravanned 1500 miles from Kansas City, MO straight through to Boston, MA.

Arriving in Boston early Friday afternoon for Saturday’s competition, the Natives remained optimistic despite their growing odds. Competing against 13 other bands including 12 Boston acts, and the Philadelphia finalist, the New Dawn’s chances of surviving this round were very slim. In fact, an out-of-town band has never come into the finals and come out victorious. However, in typical New Dawn fashion the Natives rose to the occasion and put on a flawless performance that won over the Boston fans, bands, and judges.

As the night came to a close and the judges were announcing the list of prizes, the Natives were voted as the top band by the other bands, and awarded the grand prize of competing against the worlds best in Germany by the panel of industry judges.

Now back home, the Natives are looking forward to the international finals in August. Competing in the international finals are 3 U.S. finalists (one from the Boston finals, Chicago finals, and Atlanta finals), the Canadian finalist, and a handful of European finalists who will be representing countries such as: Italy, England, France, Sweden, Spain, and Germany.

With over 9,000 bands listed world wide in this year’s competition, the New Dawn is as humbled as they are excited to be representing Detroit and the rest of the U.S. in Germany this August.

Germany’s showcase takes place as part of the 3-day Taubertal Open Air Festival that runs from August 12th – 15th, in Rothenburg, Germany. The New Dawn will be 1 of 20 bands participating as part of Emergenza's international showcase, and look forward to their opportunity to win over the 25,000 – 35, 000 capacity crowd expected to be in attendance.

Together since June of 2003, the Natives have earned themselves a reputation for being one of the most exciting and original acts coming out of Detroit.

Residing all over the metro Detroit area, the accumulation of these Natives was nothing more than chance. The band is a combination of an electric upright bass player who represents their jazz influences; a Rhodes organist who wails soul- and Motown- inspired vocals; a blues/southern rock-styled guitarist who’s likeness draws from the sounds of Hendrix, Paige, and Stevie Ray Vaughn; break neck drum beats; a DJ, and an emcee who spits raw yet consciously potent lyrics.

This diverse and talented group has an eclectic sound that could only be produced from a city so rich with musical history and culture. The New Dawn brings an exciting and highly energetic stage show that leaves music lovers of all genres begging for more. Catch the New Dawn @ Tastefest on the Pure Detroit Stage at 3:30 PM on July 4th and find out firsthand why these three-time Detroit Music Award nominees are making noise across the U.S. and now over seas!!
