Opening June 30, Swedish broadband operator Bredbandsbolaget and Musicbrigade present a new, integrated music service available to all Bredbandsbolaget's broadband access subscribers. The service gives Bredbandsbolaget's subscribers access to a package that is unique in Europe: Musicbrigade's subscription service offering audio and video downloads, access to the world's best music video archive, streaming music television and web radio all under the same roof. Friday July 1, sees new anti file-sharing law comes into effect in Sweden. In order to support and promote the legal digital distribution of music and to offer its customers a simple, user-friendly, one-stop-shop, Bredbandsbolaget has commissioned this fully integrated music portal. The Musicbrigade subscription package gives users: audio downloads at the most attractive price in Sweden, starting from SEK 5 (€0.53) per track with the complete catalogue of over 200,000 songs available at a maximum price of 7,90 SEK (€0.84) per track - Europe's first full length music video download shop with prices starting from SEK 10 (€1.07) and all catalogue at maximum price of 15 SEK (€1.49) full access to the world's most comprehensive interactive music video jukebox streaming in bitrates up to 1800 kbit/s five pre-programmed music video television channels, streaming in 1800 kbit/s access to 20 different radio channels in bitrates up to 128 kbit/s payment handled via the users normal monthly broadband invoice - removing the payment problems and hurdles holding back legal music services today Users will be able to test the subscription service free of charge until the end of September 2005, with Bredbandsbolaget taking the costs on behalf of their users. Bredbandsbolaget are also giving everyone who signs up 3 free audio tracks and 3 free music videos - worth SEK 68 (€7.20) - to download and check out how simple and effective this legal alternative really is. A subscription will cost SEK 49 (€5.25) per month - and the price includes a clean conscience! Apart from offering the best price to consumers, providing the best selection of local content will be a key strength building on Musicbrigade's existing music video editorial expertise and that of their partners (audio downloading from InProdicon and radio from Nordic Web Radio). Audio and video content will be available from all four majors (EMI, Warner, Universal and SONY BMG) alongside independent labels from Sweden and the rest of the world. Universal will make its audio catalogue available to the InProdicon powered shop later this summer whilst SONY BMG are the final major to join Musicbrigade's music video archive - starting with local repertoire from Sweden. The launch also marks the opening of the first commercial video downloading shop in Europe starting out with a hand picked selection of highlights from local independent labels and expanding to cover major label repertoire as the summer goes on. Bredbandsbolaget is Sweden's second largest broadband operator, with more than 325,000 individual consumers. Since its foundation in 1998 Bredbandsbolaget has built a position in Sweden as an isp focusing on high quality and performance; all Bredbandsbolaget customers have a bandwidth exceeding 2 Mbit/s and a majority has 8 Mbit/s or more. This has taken Bredbandbolaget to a position where they are already larger than Telia in the three major Swedish cities. Earlier this Spring, Bredbandsbolaget was acquired by Norwegian telecom operator Telenor. "We are convinced that consumption of music and film via broadband will explode as soon as distribution models and pricing finds its right way. All our 325,000 customers has bandwidth enough to be able to use the new services.", says Peder Ramel, CEO of Bredbandsbolaget. "Focusing on prohibiting illegal distribution of music on the internet is not enough, someone also has to develop the legal distribution models" Ramel concludes. "We are proud to have been selected by Bredbandsbolaget to provide this integrated music package. It marks a breakthrough for us on our home turf in Sweden and for digital music as well" says Johan Englund, President and CEO of Musicbrigade. "We are convinced that Bredbandsbolagets approach with this music package will make life a lot easier and much more interesting for those who are interested in consuming their music on-line." "We've been working with Musicbrigade from its early stages, and are really impressed with the complete music package they are now providing" says Dan Whiley, Senior Director, Digital Operations, Universal Music International. "It's important to encourage safe, legal services which give consumers access to the many different types of music that they want. Musicbrigade's service succeeds in doing this while still respecting the artist's rights."
