Lisa Marie Presley Launches Now What

Bookmark and Share

Lisa Marie Presley will launch her new album, Now What, scheduled for release on April 5th, with appearances on six national television shows, beginning with "The Oprah Winfrey Show." Winfrey is dedicating two days to Presley - Monday and Tuesday, March 28th and 29th. Presley will also appear on "Good Morning America" and "Larry King Live" (both airing March 29th), "Late Show With David Letterman" (April 1st), "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" (April 5th) and "Jimmy Kimmel Live" (April 6th). In addition, on April 8th, A&E's "Biography" will profile Presley. The video for the album's first single, "Dirty Laundry," has already been added by VH1, and the video premiere of "Dirty Laundry" on AOL's "First View" landed it the #7 spot on AOL'S Top 11 videos for the week. On April 15th, Presley will do an exclusive interview and performance for Yahoo! Music's Live@Launch.

"Dirty Laundry," the classic Don Henley/Danny Kortchmar song, is one of two salient covers on an album otherwise packed with Presley originals.

"I meant the message to be taken more generally, not about me," she explains. "Yes, it does apply to me, but it applies to the general state of affairs, more so now than ever. Reality shows, it's all so mind-blowingly sensationalistic. The fact is that our entertainment now is watching the demise of others. I thought there was nothing more appropriate than this song."

From the resolute statement of purpose in the opening "I'll Figure It Out" through the triumph of optimism and hope over cynicism and loss in the closing title song, Now What is a personal and powerful collection of songs. Presley once again teamed with Eric Rosse, who produced most of her debut album, the Gold-certified To Whom It May Concern, which bowed at #5 on the Billboard 200 in 2003. Presley executive produced Now What with guitarist Michael Lockwood and wrote the lyrics for 10 of the album's tracks, collaborating with Linda Perry and others on the music. Perry, the former Four Non-Blondes frontwoman who has since written and produced hits for Gwen Stefani, Pink and Christina Aquilera, introduced her to Pink, who guests on "Shine." Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones plays on two tracks, the acerbic "Idiot" and "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow," a song Johnny Ramone originally hand-picked for her to perform on a Ramones tribute album, but appearing here for the first time. (Johnny had hoped to play on her version of the song, but his condition weakened and he passed away on the very day Presley started recording it.)

Presley previewed many of the new songs at a special show for fans last weekend at the House of Blues in Anaheim, CA. She'll begin a headlining tour on April 26th in St. Petersburg, FL.
