Ampcast Lives To Broadcast Birthday Party
MYSTIC, Conn. – From April 1 through April 3 the unique Internet radio channel at Ampcast dot com (http://www.Ampcast.com) will broadcast live to celebrate the on-line music distribution’s sixth year of doing business over the Internet. The event is being called an Ampcast-a-thon. Surviving the turmoil that killed most other on-line music distribution (OMD) sites, Ampcast continues to sign up independent performers and host their original material, much of it free to download. Ampcast dot com handles huge traffic for streaming, downloading and CD purchases of multi-genre independent music and spoken word product. And, Ampcast dot com “radio” thrives, continuing as the Internet’s major proving ground for independent broadcasting over the World Wide Web. The April weekend jamboree on the OMD’s radio side will feature live personalities and Ampcast-generated material, along with talk shows and information about the groundbreaking web site for new listeners and veteran OMD patrons. While new OMDs pop up, none have been able to sustain a consistent presence; OMDs are, in fact, an endangered species, even though the sheer number of indie performers expands daily. The Ampcastathon is not a broadcast asking for any financial support. It is simply a block of special music and talk programming to celebrate the World Wide Web’s oldest OMD and to make people aware that there is an alternative to anything now broadcasting over the Web. “We tried to build this site to last,” says Ampcast co-founder Jim Waskowich, “and it looks like we have so far, thanks to the great independent artists who continue to make Ampcast their home. It’s certainly great to celebrate six years, especially in this business.” On the broadcasting side of Ampcast, all shows are free to stream and there is a chat room for listeners. The schedule offers unique personalities, music and a free-flowing approach that rivals pay radio (satellite) and broadcasts in all time zones around the globe all the time. The Ampcast-a-thon on April 1 through April 3 will reverberate the strong message that alternative music and broadcasting exists every day over the Web.
