Shazam Selected By SDC To Change The Face Of Mobile Music
Shazam Entertainment today announced a partnership with SDC to enable mobile operators to offer subscribers the ability to tag, purchase and download a track over a mobile handset in three simple steps. Users will now be able to download licensed music directly to mobile phones for playback and storage, without even having to know the name of the artist or title of the song. SDC, the leading, fully label-approved provider of technology for mobile music digital rights management (DRM), has chosen to work with Shazam to broaden its current offering which allows mobile operators to offer licensed download services to subscribers. Combining Shazam's pioneering music recognition technology (currently used worldwide to enable music fans to identify music over the mobile) with SDC Java DRM and SDC Music Player application, mobile operators will be able to become key providers and distributors of music content. Using this advanced technology will enable them to offer an interactive mobile music experience, creating additional revenue streams through retail and service from existing customers. Music tracks can be copied legally from a mobile to a PC enabling music fans to share content between multiple devices and platforms. The partnership will also allow OEMs and operators to integrate this service directly into mobile handsets helping them to continue to differentiate their products from competitors by making music recognition and music downloads a primary content offering. Claus Nehmzow, International Director, Shazam Entertainment commented: "Shazam's music recognition technology has allowed us to help operators to extend their mobile content to provide cutting edge music services to subscribers and expand the uptake of music recognition and music purchase worldwide. By partnering with SDC we are adding another dimension and putting power in consumers' hands offering the capability to purchase tracks directly onto their mobile, making mobile music experiences even more enjoyable and effortless than ever before." Michael Bornhäusser, CEO of SDC added: "Through our work with Shazam, we have created a win-win situation which combines service and music retail revenues for carriers, the music industry and our two organisations. Our customers, including O2, Vodafone, SFR and T-Mobile among others, will be very happy about this new combined functionality because we have successfully combined two leading mobile services. This means operators can now offer an improved music experience for their end users." At a time when mobile music is at the forefront of the wireless industry mindset, the deal will enable network operators and OEMs to offer the customer a seamless mobile music experience, capitalising on the moment of music interest. The service will strengthen customer loyalty and offers a simple means of obtaining digital music, to encourage customers to use the service time and time again.
