Dan Workman Music Introduces Latest Client - Houston Modern Rock Act, Southern Backtones
Renowned Producer Dan Workman has added yet another great talent to his growing roster of artists in development, Houston-based Southern Backtones. During their rush to musical maturity, the Southern Backtones have explored many styles before landing on the current line-up of music and talent. Their foundation is a powerful blend of Brit-pop and modern rock, a sound reminiscent of 80's power rockers such as The Cult and David Bowie combined with the fresh urgency of The Killers and The Strokes. October 2004 brings the release of their third self-titled CD, produced by Dan Workman (ZZ Top, Beyonce) at his world famous SugarHill Studios in Houston. A departure from their two previous releases, the Southern Backtones find themselves paving a new direction -- powerful, sultry songs, with alluring vocals and soaring guitars. A band with a definitive history, the Southern Backtones' debut release, Los Tormentos de Amor, was a surf-punk skater favorite that became an underground classic. Interest in the album track "Fallen Angel," led to the band being picked up by Levi's for a summer long tour to support their back to school campaign in 2000. With their second album, The Formula, the band glided towards a more rocked up vibe and several songs were included in indie-surf film "Ain't No Surf in Texas" alongside other Texas acts Los Lonely Boys and Patricia Vonne. Dan Workman Music, a full service production company, added artist development earlier this year as a specific effort to help promote the debut of Austin singer/songwriter, Sarah Sharp. The program has proven to be very effective and has since been offered to select other artists among Dan Workman's production clients. Logan Bosemer, Creative Director for Dan Workman Music adds, "Our artist development services are offered to those artist's whose albums and talents we feel extremely passionate about. We don't put our reputations behind anything but total excellence." Regarding the Southern Backtones, she adds, "We started this project from the ground up and we are very excited to be behind them, they are a great band!" Bosemer, a Nashville transplant, has worked with artists big and small. Instrumental in the beginnings of multi-platinum country superstar Keith Urban's career, she states "it is of the utmost importance to see the big picture down the road." In 1997 Dan Workman recorded then unknown vocal group Destiny's Child and went on to work on all of their projects, group and solo, most recently Beyonce's multi-platinum 'Dangerously in Love.' Workman and SugarHill are both up for TEC Awards in October in support of the title single off of the CD. Total dedication to the creative process allows the company to be involved in the evolution of an act for presentation to the professional music industry. Look for the Southern Backtones, everywhere, in 2005.
