Crystal Gayle Sings The Heart & Soul Of Hoagy Carmichael
Crystal Gayle, one of the most popular and well known female country singers of her era--who supports this recognition with her supple voice, a flair for ballads, her crossover-friendly country-pop style and her trademark floor-length hair--returns to the country music scene once again to reinforce what every music lover already knows, she is a poised and graceful songbird. Gayle's talents are crystal clear and demonstrated in what could be her most adventurous recording everher newly released tribute album to a fellow hoosier and the great composer, Hoagy Carmichael. "One of my personal and career highlights was when I got to meet Hoagy and sing several of his songs with him on a television special," Crystal recalls. To embrace and recreate her fond memories of that special time shared with Carmichael Crystal produced and recorded Crystal Gayle Sings the Heart & Soul of Hoagy Carmichael. In her own special tribute to the renowned composer, she releases the project in timely celebration of Carmichael's centennial year. Heart and Soul features 15 of Hoagy's classic standards, each freshly orchestrated ranging from a small rhythm section to a 35-piece orchestra and performed by Gayle with intuitive feel for the music. "As much as I loved singing these great songs, what made working on Heart & Soul truly rewarding was learning more about the song history and the story of Hoagy's life. Hoagy Carmichael has probably written as many standards as anyone and I am pleased to share them not only the folks that loved his music, but with a new generation of listeners." From the immortal "Stardust" (probably the most recorded song ever with over 1400 versions) to a duet with Willie Nelson, "Two Sleepy People," Crystal weaves her signature vocal style in and out of the broad musical landscape revealing Hoagy's quintessential gift. Crystal's performance is passionate--this one's from her heart and soul. Heart and Soul (Southpaw Records) comes in follow-up to Crystal's own collection of gems All My Tomorrows (Southpaw Records/October, 2003) --a mood influenced collection of American standards including hits such as "Cry Me A River," "Sentimental Journey," "It Had To Be You," and "Smile." "These are songs any artist loves to sing," says Crystal, "They're precious and timeless." All My Tomorrows is the latest exciting musical chapter to be written in the Crystal Gayle memoir of classics. All My Tomorrows (produced by Crystal Gayle and Jay Patten) is available in all major record stores - Walmart, Tower, and Borders (distributed by Compendia).
