MusicDish/Mi2N Founder To Speak On Merging Of Music & Fashion
Astoria, New York -- Eric de Fontenay, publisher of music industry portals MusicDish & Mi2N has been invited to speak at "The Convergence Of Music And Fashion" being held at The Fashion Institute Of Technology on June 10, 2004. Also speaking on the panel chaired by entertainment attorney Steve Gordon are Daymond John, CEO of FUBU and FB Entertainment, and Denise Seegal, CEO and President of Sweetface Fashion Company that manages Jennifer Lopez' J. Lo clothing line. Mr. de Fontenay recently spoke on latest business developments shaping the industry at "The Future Of Music And Video" co-sponsored by The Bar Association Of The City Of NY and The CUNY Graduate Center. "More focus on pricing, as the 99-cent price point is being cast in a new light next to master ringtone stickers that could come in as high as $2.50. To most, the question was irrelevant, as the main issue is the need for major record labels to completely overhaul their business models. Eric de Fontenay favored a flat-pricing scheme instead of a-la-carte systems, pointing to the explosive success of other companies that made similar transitions (AOL, long distance phone companies). "Competing with free" choices from P2P networks was a repeated concern, though de Fontenay correctly noted that services like Kazaa offer much greater selection in addition to free pricing. Services like MusicNet and iTunes are simply not on equal footing." Digital Music News About The Convergence Of Music And Fashion June 10th, Thursday 6:30- 8:30PM Fashion Institute of Technology: 7th Ave & 27th Street Building D / The Amphitheater New Technologies are transforming the music business. Sales of CDs have plummeted, but new business models such as authorized downloading are taking hold. In this new digital world, one of the music business greatest allies will be Fashion. We are all aware of music business entrepreneurs who have launched their own fashion labels such as Puff's Sean John. Recording artists are collaborating with major clothing brands such as Jay-Z's signature Reebok tennis shoes, and a huge number of music celebrities are endorsing fashion brands. But how else can music and fashion work together to revive sales of music? Already there are fashion websites such as Diesel that organize music competitions and offer streaming of new music. Will fashion based websites actually start selling music? Will these brands eventually sign artists and sell their MP3s on their own websites? In other words, will fashion labels become record labels as well?
