L*A*M*P Reveals The Facts About "Essential Jobs In The Music Industry" Each Thursday Night In February
L*A*M*P (Los Angeles Music Productions) has the goal of shining light on the music industry and they are turning up the wattage with four special events each Thursday evening in February Feb. 5th, 7-9pm: The Role of the Music Supervisor. Laura Wasserman and Darren Higman, both highly-respected in the industry, will discuss all aspects of what they do, including who they work with, licensing major artists vs. independent artists, how long the process takes, how much it costs, how music for soundtracks is chosen, how to work with directors, and more -- even how to become a music supervisor. Feb. 12th, 7-9pm: The Role of an A&R Rep. Joe Poindexter, Director of A&R for Geffen/Elementree (the Geffen label owned by Jonathan Davis of Korn), will discuss the role of an A&R rep -- what they do, who they work with, the process of signing an artist, what they look for in an artist, a typical "day in the life" of an A&R rep, A&R career paths, how to become an A&R rep, and more. Feb. 19th, 7-9pm: The Role of a Music Publicist/Journalist. Music Connection magazine's Bernard Baur and Tom Kidd will talk about how publicists and journalists can be an artist's connection between the streets and the suites. Topics will include: what makes a good publicist, the difference between publicity and editorial coverage, checking out references of publicists/journalists, the real costs of publicity (and of not doing "P.R."), and some of the tips and tricks of the trade. Feb 26, 7-9pm: The Role of an Artist Manager. Kenny Kerner, artist manager and director of the Music/Business Program at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, will discuss the role of an artist manager, beginning with how to get in on the ground floor, what he faces during a typical day, and more. It's a "crash course" for artist managers (and very helpful for artists as well).
