The New York City chapter of the NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International) announces a special workshop and open mic/showcase featuring the group's "Adopt-a-shop Pro," Tim Buppert, on Sunday, February 29, 2004. An "Adopt-a-shop Pro" is, in the parlance of the NSAI, a mentor assigned to a particular chapter. Buppert, an award-winning songwriter best known for having penned Kevin Sharp's number one, SHE'S SURE TAKING IT WELL, and Yankee Gray's ANOTHER NINE MINUTES, is also a widely sought-after session singer in Nashville and a drummer who performs regularly with several popular Nashville bands.

The workshop will focus on various aspects of the craft of songwriting--and is suitable for beginning- as well as professional-level songwriters. Buppert will be doing an in-depth review of three songs submitted by NSAI members, using the songs as a jumping-off point for discussing particular aspects of the craft suggested by either the strengths or the flaws in the submissions. As is customary at NSAI workshops, every effort will be made, as time permits, to include brief critiques of all attendees' songs. Buppert will also be talking at some length on the subjects of melody and groove (this refers to the rhythmic feel of a song).

The workshop will take place at TRS Professional Suites, 44 East 32nd Street (between Park and Madison Avenues) in Manhattan, from 1:00 to 6:00 PM. Pre-registration, which for NSAI members costs $25 and for non-members $35, is encouraged. Says Randi Drucker, one of two regional coordinators of the NSAI - New York City, "With no country music radio station in New York City and no CMT in most of the area, attending this workshop is a great opportunity to reconnect with Nashville--a must for any country songwriter."

At 7:30 PM on the evening of Sunday, February 29, 2004, Buppert, an accomplished performing songwriter, will be the featured artist in a showcase presented by the NSAI at Opal, 251 East 52nd Street (corner of 2nd Avenue) in Manhattan. The establishment boasts a full bar and a varied and moderately-priced dinner menu. The showcase will also include an open mic, arranged in the format of a Nashville-style songwriters' circle--with three to four songwriters on stage at once, trading songs. There will be a nominal admission fee.

Buppert is making himself available to do session singing while he is in New York. Says, Mary Beth Stone, Drucker's co-coordinator, "This is a rare chance for songwriters to be able to hire a real Nashville demo singer right here in New York City. Tim is a world-class singer--and it's sure a lot cheaper than flying to Nashville!"

This is Buppert's fifth visit to NSAI - New York City and he is entering his third year as the chapter's Adopt-a-shop Pro, a volunteer post. He serves also as the Adopt-a-shop Pro for the Long Island NSAI chapter (regarded as the sister chapter of NSAI - New York City)--and plans to give a workshop there during his visit. For information on the Long Island workshop, telephone 631-369-5751 or e-mail jsilvers@suffolk.lib.ny.us.

The NSAI is a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Nashville, focusing on the education of aspiring songwriters and the protection of the rights of professional songwriters.
