MusicDish Launches "Career Check" Interview Series

Jaunuary 2004 -- New York, NY -- MusicDish announces a new interview series to be launched in February 2004 called "Career Check." The series will explore how individuals pursuing careers in the music industry are addressing the everyday issues in their career development.

"There are a lot of 'how to' books, articles, resources and interviews for aspiring artists, musicians, songwriters, producers and the like, many of which are featured on MusicDish," said Anne Freeman, MusicDish Senior Editor. "These are great resources, typically written by people who have achieved success in the industry.

"The Career Check interview series will take a very different strategy though. The point of Career Check is to highlight the 'real-life, right now, on-the-road-to' realities of career development in the music industry as seen by people who are actively engaged in the process. Most of the songwriters, artists and others to be interviewed won't be familiar to our readers, but they are the ones who are 'coming up' by the new rules of the music industry - today's music pioneers."

"Ironically, Career Check mirrors the growing importance of 'reality storytelling' that has been such a fixture of broadcast & cable TV," noted MusicDish founder Eric de Fontenay. "I'd like to think we're taking the best parts of 'reality storytelling' to educate as well as entertain our readers."

Career Check is the third installment of a new initiative by MusicDish to adjust their content offerings to become more responsive to the career needs of today's aspiring artists and songwriters. Career Check joins the "Writing Up" column, launched in 2003, which highlights the current signing environment by interviewing songwriters, songwriter/artists and songwriters/producers who have been recently signed to staff writing and/or record deals, and the "Find Out About" series, launched in 2002, which highlights resources and services that can help artists, musicians and songwriters in their career and life needs.

"In the face of an industry with such a fluid legal and business environment, the 'tried and true' career strategies that have served aspiring artists and songwriters well, even in the recent past, may no longer be as relevant as they once were," Freeman noted. "We at MusicDish recognize that fact and are committed to developing new kinds of career resources that capture the fluidity of that environment. And what better way is there to do that than to tap into the knowledge and experiences of today's music industry aspirants?"
