National Singing Contest Auditions On Target For January Kick-Off In Toronto
Fun-loving Canadian Idol-EH!, announced today that they are on schedule to start the cross-country initiative in Toronto, at Sam-Sher Production Studios, on January 3rd, 2004, to audition and listen to Canadian vocalists who wish to participate in the National SING LAUGH EXPRESS All Ages Singing Contest and Variety Show Finals, scheduled for July, 2004, in Calgary. Those unable to make an audition in person are invited to submit an audio or video tape, CD or clip, of their vocal ability, as their official entry into the contest. Each winner of the 3 age categories of the National contest, 7 to 12 years, 13 to 17 years, and 18 years and older, will receive a Prize Package, including a Scholarship through Canadian record label, Rammit Records. Since developing the SING LAUGH EXPRESS format (which can be best described as a cross between Star Search and the Ed Sullivan show) to include greater youth involvement, it became obvious to Canadian Idol-EH! that there was a need to showcase youth performers. In mid-October, 2003, Canadian Idol-EH! announced that Canada's own 13 year-old singing sensation, Krista-Lea, would be both the National show's Co-Host, and one of its Guest Performers. The show, however, still continues to welcome adults as part of its content. Other Guest Performers who will be featured at the National Finals, including comedic acts and special vocalists, plus entertainment industry judges from Rammit Records and Big Bang Studios, will be officially announced in early, 2004. "Our priority right now is to audition individuals from across the country for their specific region, as prior to July, five Canadian Regional Semi-Final Shows or Special Events will take place to qualify regional vocalists for the Finals," states Vicky Bolduc, Canadian Idol-EH!'s Executive Director. Additional regional audition dates and locations will continually be posted and updated on the Canadian Idol-EH! web site, www.canadianidol-eh.ca. The five regions include the Western Region, (Yukon, Northwest Territories, British Columbia, Alberta, Central Region (Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario), Quebec/Nunavut Region (Quebec & Nunavut Territory), Eastern Region (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia), and the Atlantic Region (PEI, Newfoundland/Labrador). Bolduc is committed to making the National SING LAUGH EXPRESS Finals happen through Canadian Idol-EH! scouting activities and initiatives. "It is clear that the people of Canada, especially the kids of Canada want to sing, write songs and perform, and this special project provides a unique venue to support their dreams." Audition registration forms can be downloaded through the Canadian Idol-EH! web site at http://www.canadianidol-eh.ca/UPCOMING-01.htm
