GoGirls Festival New York City, 2004 ~ Lineup

Rachael Sage – is a modern Renaissance woman. A pianist, singer-songwriter, poet and visual artist, Sage has never shied away from a challenge. She founded her own record label, Mpress, which recently released her fifth album “Public Record” in April 2003. Described by the Village Voice as “ earthiness, color and emotion… sure to put on a show sublime.” A Grand Prize winner in the ’01 John Lennon Songwriting Contest, as well as winner of the Billboard Songwriting and Great American Songwriting Contests, Rachael has also toured with Ani Difranco, Melissa Ferrick and has played the Lillith Fair with Sarah MacLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Suzanne Vega and the Pretenders.. Rachael has established herself as a best-seller on CDBaby.com, and has charted on AAA/College radio and tours year round both in the US and abroad. www.rachaelsage.com

Jen Chapin – Dubbed a “First rate storyteller” by Jazz Times Magazine, Jen continually earns that praise many times over with her debut album, “Linger”, on the Hybrid Recordings label. Chapin reaches out to her listeners with an honesty and directness seldom heard in even the best pop songwriting. Jen has performed all around the city in venues such as Joe’s Pub, Town Hall, the Bottom Line, Fez, and Mercury Lounge. She has been a supporting act for Bruce Hornsby and Aimee Mann and her songs have won honors at the Hamptons and Texas film festivals and are also being broadcast on Showtime Networks. Jen has always tried to interweave her musical and political passions. She has developed a number of workshops and lectures based on music and social action, and she also chairs the Board of Directors for WHY (World Hunger Year) – an activist organization co-founded by her father, the late singer-songwriter, Harry Chapin. Jen’s music is sophisticated and subtle. www.jenchapin.com

Erin Hill – “Erin Hill may be indie pop’s renaissance grrl” says Amplifier Magazine. Erin is a harpist/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist whose debut CD, “Frost as Desired,” is out on Gridley Records. Rob Worby, BBC, says: "The album is beautiful. Voice exquisite, the words telling tales everyone wants to hear.” Erin has sung and played with Cyndi Lauper, Joan Osborne, Duncan Sheik, Jimmy Vivino, Will Lee, and has opened for Garth Hudson of The Band. Her songs can be heard in the independent films “Spent,” “Bad Bride,” and “American Desi.” Women Who Rock Magazine says: “This redhead... delivers a much-needed dose of marvelous pop ditties with her simply beautiful and honest voice, witty lyrics, and excellent musicianship.” As a harpist, she’s played Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and with The Fab Faux in New York and the UK. Erin appears in Tim Robbins’ most recent film “Cradle Will Rock” (and is also on the soundtrack) and has sung solo on HBO’s “The Chris Rock Show” and “Chappelle’s Show” on Comedy Central.. www.gridleyrecords.com

Allison Cipris – performs with a gritty, soulful edge. Allison and her band deliver a driven rock show fueled by groove-oriented pop/rock coupled with Allison’s powerful vocals. Her recently released debut EP, “Me Likey” is garnering much praise and she is being touted as one of New York City’s newest singer/songwriters on the rise. Allison has toured around the country and abroad with her work in musical theater and as a session singer. As a result, she has worked with many artists and songwriters, including Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi. Allison was recently chosen to be featured on UMO (Underground Music Organization)’s CD – “Best Singer/Songwriters in New York City, 2003”. She is an active member of Indiegrrl and GoGirlsMusic and has charted on local AAA/College Radio shows. Allison and her band have performed in some of Manhattan’s most recognized rock venues – such as the Bitter End, the Cutting Room, Lion’s Den, Le Bar Bat and more. www.allisoncipris.com

G-spot transgresses passion & intellect with hook-laden songs that offer listeners a fresh rock punk sound with a touch of pop, & some funky grooves. “Gail and company reel you in and keep your palate wanting to taste more... A brazen NY band that deserves attention and commands it at times” says Rikks Reviews. On their home turf in New York City, they have held court at The Bitter End, Elbow Room, Downtime, Meow Mix, The Continental & many more. This summer they began touring regionally & played at well-known venues along the East Coast such as The Haunt in Ithaca & The Saint in NJ, as well as the Roth Regatta at Stonybrook College & Long Island’s EstFest. Lead singer, Gail is a veritable whirling dervish of unbridled energy - teasing & childlike one moment, then morphing into a sexy, aggressively seductive chanteuse the next. Their recent live gigs have generated rave reviews; FM Sound’s Kim Chase had this to say “…besides the awesome music, the show was an amazing display of a level of energy that could melt metal. The band has fun together, which is what I really love to see, and the musicianship is top-notch…” G-spot is preparing to release their second album due out in Spring 2004. www.gspotband.com
