Amnesty International Launches The Music For Human Rights Initiative

Bookmark and Share

Music for Human Rights-Inspired Skateboard Decks Designed by Radiohead, Coldplay, Beth Orton, Ryan Adams, Badly Drawn Boy and others to be Auctioned Online at Ebay.com Starting December 5!

Amnesty International USA, the US chapter of one of the world-s largest grassroots organizations, is known for delivering the empowering message of human rights to a broad audience. Widely recognized for their all-star benefits and sold-out concerts and tours, Amnesty International is now making their message loud and clear with a new CD and more.

Not available in stores, Music for Human Rights, produced in conjunction with Asterisk Entertainment, is sent to new Amnesty International members upon joining. A new online hub (www.musicforhumanrights.com ) and the Music for Human Rights CD are the first offerings under the Amnesty International Music for Human Rights umbrella. Through concerts, exclusive online auctions, and special events, artists from across the spectrum of contemporary music are helping Amnesty International energize a new generation of conscious youth.

For this first disc, Radiohead, Coldplay, Beth Orton, Aimee Mann, Ryan Adams, Badly Drawn Boy, 1 Giant Leap, David Gray and REVBOY have generously lent tracks. As an added bonus, the CD features an interactive multimedia digital art piece by the cutting edge performance collective, Fischerspooner (originally commissioned for Amnesty's 40th anniversary). Through their participation, these artists are spreading the powerful message of human rights to their fans, and bolstering Amnesty International as a valuable resource for information and action.

The Music for Human Rights CD also marks the debut of REVBOY, an anonymous collective of musicians and artists dedicated to preserving free speech and artistic expression. The participants have been responsible for the sale of millions of CDs, yet for politically sensitive reasons (and to protect their major label contracts?) have chosen to remain anonymous. REVBOY hand-picked Amnesty International USA to be the recipient of their first publicly distributed track, "Lean On Me" Đ the initial spark that will ignite WHO IS REVBOY?'s campaign.

"Musicians have been instrumental in raising awareness about human rights and motivating people to effect positive change," said Dr. William F. Schulz, Executive Director of Amnesty International USA. "By working with popular artists, Amnesty International hopes to expand the grassroots movement that during our 42-year history has helped promote and protect the basic human rights of people across the globe. The support of these artists will bolster Amnesty International's reach to young people, who are critical to the movement for social change."
