M2.0 To Release CD With Dayna Curry And Heather Mercer
M2.0 Records recently announced it will produce and distribute the "Prisoners of Hope: Songs of Freedom" CD featuring Dayna Curry and Heather Mercer, the two Shelter Now International relief workers held captive and rescued by U.S. Special Forces in Afghanistan last November. Proceeds from the project will all be given to the Hope Afghanistan Foundation. "The idea for the CD actually came in prison," comments Curry. "Worship was what carried us through our days in prison, and I thought 'if we get out of here, wouldn't it be neat to make a CD of the worship songs that have helped us the most and then use the proceeds to help rebuild Afghanistan!' It's hard to believe the idea is becoming a reality, but most of all we hope that the songs on this CD will bring comfort and peace and a real sense of God's nearness to all who listen to it and especially for those in difficult and seemingly hopeless (prison-like) situations." The CD, executive produced by Jeff Moseley and Wes Yoder, features Curry and Mercer along with vocalists from Antioch Community Church, the women's home church in Waco, Texas along with various guest vocalists. The project was recorded live at the church in early May 2002, and features well-known worship songs they sang while in prison, including "Come Fall on Us," "What A Friend I've Found," and "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," as well as "Fear Not," written by Curry during their captivity. Antioch Community Church's senior pastor Jimmy Siebert sat with Curry and Mercer at a press conference last December and introduced them to a welcome- home crowd as "women of impeccable character and integrity." "We are obviously thrilled to be associated with these two women," commented M2.0 president Jeff Moseley, who coincidentally, also attended Baylor, and whose own daughter attends the school Curry attended in Nashville. "Their lives portray what our faith is all about, and it's an honor to be able to release this project in hopes that many will be encouraged by this music that was such a source of strength for them." The CD also supports the release of their upcoming book, "PRISONERS OF HOPE: The Story of Our Captivity and Freedom in Afghanistan" (Doubleday; June 11, 2002; $19.95 Hardcover), in which Curry and Mercer offer never- before-told details of their harrowing experience. In "PRISONERS OF HOPE", readers discover how two ordinary young women left the comforts of the United States and ended up in an Afghanistan prison and on the nightly news. While the two Shelter Now International relief workers were captive in Afghanistan -- charged with breaking Muslim law by teaching Christianity -- America suffered attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, then began its military campaign against Afghanistan and its ruling Taliban government. Mercer, 25, and Curry, 30, were released last November as Kabul fell to Northern Alliance and American forces. Since their release they have been showered with media attention and speaking invitations, and have met personally with President Bush.
