LONDON, November 2, 1999 - David Bowie, Eric Clapton and Sting were among

performing rights organization. The awards are given annually to the BMI
songs from the Performing Right Society (PRS) and European Societyıs

The Robert Musel Award for the most performed Song of the Year went to Eric
Clapton for "My Fatherıs Eyes" (Warner/Chappell Music International Ltd.).
The award is named for the late legendary songwriter, music industry
executive and long time BMI consultant Robert Musel. "Layla" (Throat
Music/Warner/Chappell Music International Ltd) earned Clapton an award for
an amazing four million plays. This would equate to an incredible 23 years
of continuous airplay. Clapton also received a 2 "Million-Air" Award and a
Pop Award for "Wonderful Tonight" (Warner/Chappell Music International
Ltd.), as well as a Film Award for the music to "Lethal Weapon 4."

Only two songs achieved more than that tally: honorees in the 5
"Million-Air" play category were the late John Lennon and Sir Paul
McCartney for "Michelle" (Northern Songs Ltd.), and the late Bert Kaempfert
for "Strangers In The Night." Other winners in the four million plays
category included Mick Jagger and Keith Richards for "(I Canıt Get No)
Satisfaction" and Graham Gouldman and Eric Stewart for "Iım Not In Love"
(EMI Music Publishing Ltd.).

Scooping the College Song of the Year and a Pop Award was Richard Ashcroft
for "Bitter Sweet Symphony," for which Mick Jagger and Keith Richards also
received awards.

There were a total of eight winners in the three million performance
category, including three to Sir Elton John for "Candle In The Wind"
(Universal Music Ltd.), "Philadelphia Freedom" and "Sad Songs Say So Much."
Sting scored with "All This Time" (EMI Music PublishingLtd./Magnetic Music)
as did Roland Orzabal and Ian Stanley with the smash hit for Tears For
Fears, "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" (EMI Music Publishing Ltd.).

A two million performance award was bestowed on Barry, Maurice and Robin
Gibb of the Bee Gees for "If I Canıt Have You" (Gibb Brothers Music/BMG).
Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus of Abba and their late manager Stig
Anderson were honored for "Dancing Queen" (Universal Music Publishing) as
were Sting for "De Do Do Do De Da Da Da" (EMI Music Publishing
Ltd./Magnetic Music), Elton John for "Sacrifice" and with Sir Tim Rice for
"Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and Pete Townshend for "Pinball Wizard"
(Fabulous Music Ltd.).

Pop awards went to Eliot Kennedy for the Bryan Adams hit "Back To You"
(Sony/ATV Music Publishing Ltd.), Sara Dallin, Siobhan Fahey and Karen
Woodward for "Cruel Summer" (In A Bunch Music Ltd./Warner/Chappell Music
Ltd.), Noel Gallagher for "Donıt Go Away" (Creation Songs/Sony/ATV Music
Publishing Ltd.), the Gibb brothers were honored again for "Ghetto Supastar
(That Is What You Are)" (Gibb Brothers Music/BMG), David Bowie and Brian
Eno for "Heroes" (BMG Songs Ltd./EMI Music Publishing Ltd.), Billie Myers
for "Kiss The Rain" (EMI Music Publishing Ltd.) and Eagle Eye Cherry for
"Save Tonight" (Diesel 2 Publishing (STIM)/ Warner/Chappell Music Ltd.).

The strength of British composers was reflected by a record number of six
Film Music Awards presented during the evening. Picking up a third
consecutive BMI Film Award was David Arnold for the score to "Godzilla."
Also honored were Harry Gregson Williams with two awards for "Enemy Of The
State" and "Antz," Stephen Warbeck for "Shakespeare In Love," George Fenton
for "Youıve Got Mail" and, as previously mentioned, Eric Clapton for
"Lethal Weapon 4."

The world of country music was represented with a BMI Country Award going
to Roger Cook for "I Just Want To Dance With You," recorded by George
Strait. The ubiquitous Latin scene was also represented with a Latin Award
going to Per Gessle for "No Se Si Es Amor" (Jimmy Fun Music (STIM)).

The annual BMI Awards ceremony in London acknowledges the talents of
British and European songwriters and composers whose works are represented
by BMI in the United States. BMI is an American performing rights
organization representing more than 250,000 American songwriters, composers
and music publishers, and thousands of British and European songwriters and
composers who license their works through BMI in the United States.
