WBAI Airplay, Terrific Reviews Greet Peggy Sarlin’s ‘Let There Be Love’; A Fascinating Career Continues to Blossom

WBAI airplay and terrific reviews have greeted Peggy Sarlin’s new album ‘Let There Be Love’. In his JazzWeekly write-up, veteran critic George Harris praised, “The messages are about optimism and the power of love, something deeply needed these days. A fragrant rose of material.” And, in their insightful album review, Stage and Cinema Magazine concluded, “Anyone who’s had intensely lousy times (and isn’t that all of us?) and you’re determined to rise above it with wit, sophistication, and gentility, this is for you.” Read both recent reviews in their entirety, below.

Sarlin’s Blues-infused ‘Let There Be Love’ finds the storyteller mining her fantasies (and her pain,) to create a vivid landscape of detail-driven songs. The acclaimed CD of originals was Produced by Jeff Franzel, Paul Frazier and Steve Williams, and was recorded at Atomic Studios.

A full streaming album is available upon request. In addition to WBAI support, ‘Let There Be Love’ has earned international radio airplay and has also been embraced by major college radio stations. Sarlin will soon enter the studio to record a series of new tracks as well.

JazzWeekly – Album review
By George Harris https://www.jazzweekly.com/2018/01/peggy-sarlin-let-there-be-love/#respond
Teamed with Jeff Franzel/b, Paul Frazier/dr, Steve Williams/g, Adkold Buk/key and background vocalists, Peggy Sarlin brings her sweet and wispy voice through a mix easy swing and sassy standards. She’s wispy and sleek on “Midnight Detective” and soft on the ballad “Let There Be Love.” She wrote all of the material here, and it ranges widely from a stark blues on “Every Kind of Lonely” to a funky and upbeat “Porcupine Papa” and “take Me to the Land of Loving.” The messages are about optimism and the power of love, something deeply needed these days. A fragrant rose of material.

Stage and Cinema Magazine – Album review

LOVE PREVAILS
Some people give up hope and let their lives fall away after a disaster. Not Peggy Sarlin, a singer and writer whose husband had a stroke in 2012. In 2016, the chanteuse — who had written for Bette Midler and Patti LuPone — released the successful Friends and Family, a most relatable collection of songs that centered on her most important subject: Love. Now, she’s released her new studio album, Let There Be Love, a collection of personal dreams and setbacks she’s experienced. Blues, ballads, funk, folk, intrigue, mystery — and, yes, love — wonderfully collide as Ms. Sarlin, who is both composer and lyricist, offers timeless storytelling among the moving music. Anyone who’s had intensely lousy times (and isn’t that all of us?) and you’re determined to rise above it with wit, sophistication, and gentility, this is for you.

UK JazzJams Radio praised, “Peggy Sarlin has a voice that's got soul swelling from within! She combines light-jazz arrangements with energetic and often bluesy vocals. My favorite tracks were, "Midnight Detective", "Take Me to the Land of Loving", and "Porcupine Papa". Reminiscent of Bonnie Raitt and of Joan Osborne, this album makes you want to get up and jive!”
In a recent editorial in The Forward, Sarlin, who also has gained respect as a brain health advocate specializing in the area of Alzheimer’s support, explored the connection between prayer and health, drawing upon a variety of examples (and personal experiences) to chronicle the positive impact of prayer, music, community and hope.

As a singer/songwriter and brain health advocate, Peggy Sarlin brings a holistic approach to her music and to her journey, an atypical path that she shares in interviews and in additional links, below. Whether through her music or through her work on behalf of families struggling with Alzheimer’s, Sarlin has built an intertwined career that’s rooted in an effort to impact people’s lives in a positive way.

Her story is as unexpected as it is inspiring – Sarlin was signed to Columbia Records and had early success as a songwriter for Bette Midler and Patti LuPone, wrote scripts for popular children’s television programs, and even wrote for NASA (and for The Pope!)

Everything changed in 2012, when her husband had a stroke. That personal trauma started a sequence of unlikely events chronicled here: http://www.peggysarlin.com/about/

The links below reveal a thoughtful, compassionate artist who allows love to inspire her music, and invites hope to drive her career.

As referenced above, Sarlin has inspired and supported hundreds of thousands of Alzheimer’s sufferers and their families with informative books and videos released in 2016 and 2018. Her Alzheimer’s work helps families find hope and optimism amid their fear and sadness. There are countless stories of lives she’s impacted, and she sees her role as being an inspiring, uplifting force for people as they face their challenging times. She comments, “I’m your friend through the tough stuff.” In 2016, Awakening from Alzheimer’s was her first documentary series, and it has since garnered over 3,000,000 views. As mentioned above, Sarlin’s recent online event, Regain Your Brain, shared additional advancements, interviews and promising information.
