Superior Music Publishing Signs The Suburbs, MC Lars, Marc Nelkin
Independent music publisher Superior Music Publishing is proud to announce three new signings.
Los Angeles, CA – Superior Music Publishing is proud to announce new worldwide publishing deals with Minneapolis new wave legends the Suburbs, nerdcord “lit-hop” pioneer MC Lars, and pop hitmaker Marc Nelkin.
Superior Music Publishing is a full service boutique music publishing company and joint venture with Modern Works Music Publishing. Superior Music Publishing offers both co-publishing and administration deals with worldwide collection, as well as a specialization in film and TV music placement.
The Suburbs, best known for ‘80s hits “Love is the Law” and “Music for Boys” are new wave pioneers and were the first signing to Twin/Tone Records. They recently reformed after a lengthy hiatus and have a new album, “Hey Muse!” This is the first publishing deal signed by Chan Poling, primary songwriter of the Suburbs, in their 40-year history.
MC Lars is the creator of post punk laptop rap and lit-hop, which he has extended and powered into a fusion of rap, punk, rock, ska, pop, and other genres. He combines his music with powerful and present lyrics, rapping about everything from the iGeneration to Guitar Hero to Edgar Allen Poe to Game of Thrones, the Simpsons and Cyberbullying.
Marc Nelkin is a well-known Los Angeles-based pop songwriter whose songs have been cut by Kesha (“Backstabber,” “C U Next Tuesday”), LP, Cher, Deborah Gibson, Charlie Wilson, Marie Digbt and more.
Mara Schwartz Kuge, President/Founder of Superior Music Publishing, says, “Superior couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with this acclaimed and diverse group of writers, and we look forward to the new opportunities we’ll be creating together.”
Mike Buenting, manager of the Suburbs says, “Something that really matters when choosing a publisher or a label to sign with, is finding someone who has passion and is truly a music fan! This is exactly what we found in Superior Music Publishing and why Chan Poling and The Suburbs were excited to sign with them.”
"We are very excited to be working with Superior Music Publishing,” says MC Lars, “not only for their specialization and knowledge of the industry, but for the attention they pay to their cross-genre indie artists. We are glad to be working with Mara Schwartz Kuge, a veteran of the industry who we know has our backs, who always pays close attention to and communicates well with her clients."
“Signing with Superior Music Publishing was an easy decision for me,” says Marc Nelkin, “as Mara’s many years of experience in the business and pitching ability for film & TV are second to none.”
