FORTUNES & FOLKLORE DELIEVERS “TAKE COVER” FROM TWO SIDES OF AN OCEAN
On 9/25/17, Fortunes & Folklore released their first CD comprising of 10 remakes, with it’s appropriate title “Take Cover.” Only one track is an original written by lead vocalist Meeta Gajjar Parker and Lorenzo Garassino Instrumentalist, entitled “A Difference Made.”
The artwork was hand-drawn by an Italian Artist named Elena Gaglioti, unveiling the idea behind this unique CD of truly different sounding remakes, which is to join opposites. The cover was carefully designed with two different drawings, and is half flat black and half flat white to indicate this. Almost all of the original versions of these songs feature a male vocalist. Each song has been deeply redone with no prejudice.
Some guitars are metal, some synths are techno, some parts are half time and some are double time. But, most notably Meeta and Lorenzo are on two sides of an ocean. Meeta resides in the US and Lorenzo in Italy. The CD was recorded via the internet without the two ever meeting.
Lorenzo and Meeta’s paths crossed 2 ˝ years ago through a musicians website where she had been considered for a different recording project in which Lorenzo was involved in. It wasn’t meant to be, but he tried to include her however he could because he believed in her vocal talent! A year later, Lorenzo messaged Meeta inquiring if she would be interested in doing a new project with him and told her what it was going to be. She liked it, said yes and it became their new collaboration.
Meeta Gajjar Parker is no stranger to the recording industry beginning her career at age 16 when she recorded the rock single, “Wild About You,” for Alpha International Records Meeta became the “First Female Rock Singer From India.” A year later she was back in the studio with producer Lance Quinn recording “Come Back For More,” at the Power Station in New York. So captured by her voice and style was Virgin Records artist Dexter Wansel, that he featured her as lead vocalist twice on his “Captured” album on Virgin International Records released in Europe in the 80’s. The two cuts, “Turn Me On” and “Do What You Wanna,” earned her international recognition. This CD was re-released in 2012 worldwide.
Meeta appeared as a guest vocalist performing “Forbidden Fruit” on Dancin’ On Air (Channel 17-Philadelphia). This song also aired on Dick Clark’s Rate-A-Record section of American Bandstand.
Meeta had the honor of singing the “Star Spangled Banner,” for the Philadelphia 76er’s several times in the Philadelphia Spectrum. She has recorded many solo albums, a Jazz/Easy Listening, self-titled CD “What Would I Do,” “Shanti Dhun,” Indian Chants recorded in India, “Life” by Exotica a Rock CD, which she wrote the lyrics and vocal melodies for in its entirety. She also released an Americana EP called “The Watch,” by Riverhorse and Meeta, as well as sang lead vocals on “Cataland’s” 2015 Symphonic, Progressive Rock CD. She recorded 3 dance CD’s with the band Final Approach including the 2016 release entitled “One Track Minds,” and Cinematic, Inspirational EP “Timeless” which was written & recorded by her and Chris Hope. Meeta’s 10th CD is a cover song album with a band in Italy doing re-makes of 70’s and 80’s songs.
Currently Meeta and her husband Frank Parker are performing together as a different kind of duo. A singer and a soundman. They began working together in bands in September 2009 in a New Jersey band called “Impact.” Together they played 50 gigs in one year. They worked together again in 2013 for 2 years in a Delaware band called “Chillin with Charlie.”
In February 2015, they left the band and by May of 2016 they began performing together in this unique style of duo. Bringing Meeta’s charismatic performance style and combining Frank’s sound wizardry they created something completely new and have been doing their show for over a year now. It’s steadily growing into the four state area of DE, MD, PA and NJ.
Frank a native of New Jersey, had played guitar for many years in several NJ bands. After starting his career as a sound engineer in 2009, he has worked for several bands in DE, MD, and NJ outside of working with Meeta.
