*MARTIN COMMITTEE TRUMPET - In the late 1930s, the Martin Instrument company started working on a new trumpet design based on input from a “committee” of leading instrument designers and trumpet players. A team of the best in the field: well-known horn makers Renold Schilke, Vincent Bach, Elden Benge and Foster Reynolds put all of their knowledge and thoughts together to create the greatest playing trumpet ever. They produced and manufactured these amazing horns from the 1930's to the mid to late 1950's. The Martin Committee trumpet is one of the most highly sought of instruments of any collector. Martin Committee trumpets have been played by some of America's greatest jazz legends.
The horn became widely adopted in jazz music because of its warm, rich sound and flexible intonation. It has a unique sound that has been described as "dark and smokey". Miles Davis played custom-made Committees throughout his career. Other notable players include Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Chet Baker, Lee Morgan, Maynard Ferguson, Art Farmer, Wallace Roney, and Chris Botti.
