Great China Mania Top Artist Chrissie Chau's "Journey To The West" Box Office Beats Expectation To Top $157 Million In China
Great China Mania Holdings, Inc. announces its top artist Chrissie Chau's movie "Journey to the West," of which she is being one of the main cast, pulls in $157 million since its opening of February 10 until February 24.
The movie has already set some records. Its opening-day take was 81.7 million Yuan, breaking the 70 million Yuan record of "Painted Skin: The Resurrection" for a domestic movie. The Hollywood blockbuster "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" remains the opening-day champ with 102 million Yuan. But last week "Journey to the West" claimed the title of largest single-day gross (on February 14) of 123 million Yuan for all films -- domestic and foreign -- surpassing the previous one-day record of 114 million Yuan set in 2011 for the third installment of the "Transformers" franchise.
"Journey to the West has outperformed the expectations. The great success of the movie in China makes Chrissie become even more popular and famous in the Chinese market. It definitely helps GMEC's business developments in the future," Roy, CEO of GMEC, said.
