Music Heals IPod Pharmacy Makes First Delivery
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Chris Brandt Music Heals Email: chris@musicheals.ca Vancouver, BC, December 19th, 2012 – Music Heals made its first delivery of good-as-new iPods to student representatives of the Music Therapy program at Capilano University. Vancouver musician Dominique Fricot collected the first 50 iPods during his recent tour, and his own events that he created surrounding “iPod Pharmacy Week”. The “iPod Pharmacy” is a program exclusive to Music Heals, which collects used iPods and MP3 players, and repurposes them for use by music therapists in hospitals and care centres of all kinds. Headphone manufacturer Skullcandy provided over 100 sets of Lowrider headphones, and Scotiabank donated the funds needed to purchase iTunes gift cards to go with each player. Each iPod is restored to original factory settings, and students of the Music Therapy program at Capilano University clean each player before they are forwarded to music therapists in the field. The iPod Pharmacy accepts donations of fully functioning iPods and Mp3 players, and monetary donations for iTunes gift cards. The program has captured the imagination of the general public, as grade 4 students at St George’s school in Vancouver are collecting iPods at their school this Christmas, for donation to Music Heals. A full high school campaign to collect iPods will happen in March 2013, which is Music Therapy Month. About Music Heals The Music Heals Charitable Foundation raises awareness of the healing powers of music and fundraises for music therapy and related services across Canada. Their mission is to unite music therapy-related charitable initiatives, and increase patient accessibility to music therapy in children’s hospitals, seniors’ homes, palliative care facilities, at-risk youth programs and more.
