WSOU - Seton Hall U Radio Wins IRF Best Music Show Contest
Over 50 submissions from nearly 30 Universities around the United States were received via mixcloud.com. Applicants were asked to upload a half hour music show to demonstrate their skill, personality and musical knowledge. The panel of judges included the Co-Founders of the IRF, Darryl von Daniken and Miguel Alvarez along with input from the IRF Advisory Board which consists of President Dominique Leguern, of DL Advisors; Robert Kraft, former head of Fox Music; Scott Cohen, co-Founder and VP International of The Orchard, James Cridland, radio futurologist and the legendary Tony Prince of DMC Music. "The IRF thanks all the US college DJs for their participation in this our first contest. We are encouraged that the next generation of radio makers shows such a diversity of talent and dedication to music radio," said Darryl von Daniken, co-Founder of the IRF. "Type A's show is a great example of the fresh music shows that the IRF likes to showcase, we congratulate Angie and look forward to watching her grow in her radio career." "Congratulations to Angie Szani for winning the search for the best US College DJ! iBiquity is proud of our partnership with the International Radio Festival to highlight the outstanding DJ talents of US Colleges and Universities", said Joseph D'Angelo, SVP Broadcast Programs & Services of iBiquity. "Type A's home station, WSOU, is one of over 2,100 radio stations in the USA broadcasting with HD Radio Technology. WSOU's audience benefits from Type A's tremendous talents, and they also enjoy all the benefits of HD Radio digital broadcasting, as well." Angie Szani is a Senior student at Seton Hall University majoring in psychology. She has been a DJ at WSOU since her Freshman year. She is in regular rotation and is the producer and host of an indie show, The Campus Buzz. Angie interns at Liberty Science Center and also WDHA 105.5fm, when she's not studying for class. Angie's hometown is Rutherford, NJ. "College radio is a great platform for learning, making friendships and finding good music. I'm happy to represent WSOU and very grateful to IRF for this award," said Angie Szani.
