Atlantic Records Chairman And Coo Julie Greenwald Tops The Billboard Women In Music Power Players List For A Third Consecutive Year
All of the honorees were feted this afternoon at the annual Billboard Women in Music event at Capitale in New York City presented by Nikon 1, Katy Perry and Carly Rae Jepsen were both on hand to accept their awards. Katy Perry was interviewed on stage by Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show," while Carly Rae Jepsen spoke with Natalie Morales of The "Today" Show. In addition, the event featured special tribute performances by one of country music's newest stars Hunter Hayes, and teen Brit pop-sensation Cher Lloyd. Cher's performance was part of the new female-focused "Candid Covers" video series, presented by Nikon 1 and hosted on Billboard.com/wim, that spotlights emerging female artists performing songs from the female music stars who helped inspire their careers. The performance, filmed with Nikon D-SLR cameras, will be featured on Billboard.com on December 5. Nikon also gave attendees the chance to capture their own "Candid Covers" moment using Nikon 1 cameras at a photo activation area during the Women in Music red carpet reception before the luncheon. The coveted Billboard Woman of the Year Award is given to an exemplary female recording artist who has inspired the music business with her success, leadership and new ideas. The award also acknowledges the achievements of the artist over the past 12 months. The Billboard Rising Star Award recognizes success and great potential among artists in the early stages of their career. Billboard's Women in Music Power Players list recognizes female executives who drive the music business forward with their vision, dedication and hard work. Billboard invited readers worldwide to submit nominations on Billboard.biz, and female executives in every industry sector were eligible. A team of Billboard's editors then reviewed the submissions, and the top 40 nominees were chosen and ranked based on their achievements during the past 12 months. The list reads like a roster of the top female movers and shakers in the music business. The range of their achievements – at labels or publishing companies, in touring, on TV and elsewhere – reflects the overall impact of all the women in the industry.
