Unbridled Optimism Drives Roots-Rock Music of Barefoot Truth

4.5 Million Spins on Pandora Radio Bode Well for Up-and-Coming Band

Upbeat CD, Out February 16th, Sees the ‘Threads’ Between Environment and People

Mixing a strong environmental message with the lofty theme of humankind’s interconnectedness, roots-rockers Barefoot Truth deliver a buoyant, reggae-infused album of hope and inspiration on ‘Threads’. Their upcoming release, set for February 16th, will be accompanied by a U.S. tour – see itinerary below.

Barefoot Truth started as an acoustic duo and has grown steadily to its current make-up as a five-piece rock/pop band. Their live shows are infectious, their songs are hook-heavy, and their youthful energy makes listeners believe that, yes, maybe each of us can indeed make a positive impact on one other and on our planet…In fact, the band says the concept behind ‘Threads’ is nothing less than “universal consciousness” -- they add: “As we emerge from the wreckage of unbridled greed in America, this album aims to inspire us to re-set our value meters, and to celebrate life!”

Music fans appear to like what they’re hearing, and with upwards of 4.5 million spins on Pandora Radio, Barefoot Truth is building the kind of ‘new media’ support that can spark mainstream success for an emerging indie. The 4.5 million figure is notable for a band at this level (by comparison, 'Where Are You Going' by Dave Matthews Band has notched 10 million spins,) and Barefoot Truth happily credits ‘The Pandora Effect’ for its crucial role in generating their growing army of listeners.

Based in Mystic, Connecticut, members of Barefoot Truth actually live together, and have done so since 2007. The band features Will Evans on drums and lead vocals, Andy Wrba on upright bass, Jay Driscoll on Weissenborn slide guitar, Garrett Duffy on harmonica, and John Waynelovich on piano. If ever the term ‘organic’ applied to the growth of a band, this is the case. Here’s an informal timeline of their evolution, as written by Driscoll:

*Summer 2003- Will Evans and I (Jay Driscoll) meet through a mutual friend in Mystic, CT. We had both just graduated high school. We immediately started playing music together. The first time we jammed was on my parent’s roof.
*Fall 2003- Will went to St Michaels College, I went to Umass-Amherst, 3 hours apart. Throughout the year we stayed in touch and planned to try to get some acoustic duo gigs the following summer. We drove to each other's school a few times. We played some Guster, Dispatch, and Jack Johnson tunes together, while also slowly beginning to work on some original songs.
*Summer 2004- We put together a bunch of songs and started playing restaurants and bars in Mystic, CT. We started writing more songs. We had a great response from people listening (mostly family and friends!).
* We recorded a short demo on CD that fall and quickly sold 500 copies. We quickly wrote more and more material over the fall semester.
*January 2005- We recorded "Changes in the Weather" at Lakewest Recording Studio with producer Jack Gauthier (Dispatch, John Hammond, State Radio).
*Summer 2005- We released "Changes in the Weather".
*January 2006- We record "Club House Sessions" at Lakewest, a six song EP co-produced by Pete Francis (of Dispatch) and Jack Gauthier. Will's friend Garrett Duffy from school plays a little harmonica on it. (Garrett had just started playing harmonica). Andy Wrba introduces himself to us at a show of ours at the Iron Horse in Northampton. At the time, Andy was studying upright bass at Westfield State College. We welcome him to play upright bass at one of our shows as an audition. He learned all our songs in 30 minutes.
*Feb 2006- Will and Garrett go to New Zealand for semester. Andy and I hang out and start playing music together.
*Sept 06- May 07. Senior year. We begin playing lots of colleges and high schools. In April we had a very helpful experience... a trip to Ohio, where we played two college shows in a weekend. It started with our new minivan that wouldn't turn until it was almost too late to leave. Will had strep throat, I had a cold. The 4 of us set out late Thursday night, skipped classes on Friday. Drove all night. Played at Xavier University Friday night. Then Dennison U on Saturday night. Drove through the night, and made it back to home with barely enough time to study at all before finals on Monday. A lot of our weekends that year were like that.
*Summer 07- We record "Walk Softly" at Lakewest. John Waynelovich, a friend of Andy's from Westfield State comes to play piano on a few tracks. Soon he begins joining us for gigs on weekends (he was younger than us and still in school). John has been playing different instruments, singing, and acting most of his life. Along with music education, he studied Jazz and Classical piano at college.
*Fall 07- We all move in together in Mystic, and take on the band as our actual job. We gigged and promoted the new CD for over a year.
*June 08- We begin recording "Threads" with producer Scott Riebling, in Boston and other various studios throughout MA.
*January 09- We record "Wake the Mountain” with Pete Francis, and "Life is Calling" with Naia Kete. Both projects took place with Jack at Lakewest Recording Studio with Jack Gauthier.
*Spring/Summer 09- We still are working on "Threads"! We tour with Pete Francis as one band, playing each other’s songs. Amazing experience. It took us to new places such as DC, Baltimore, VA, MN, Wisconsin, Colorado and Wyoming. Playing colleges, clubs and festivals. We finish "threads" in August. John Waynelovich joins us full time after graduating from Westfield State College.
* Currently we all still live together down in Mystic, CT.

Here’s what Shawn Kilmurray, Executive Director of Rock the Earth, said about the band: “Barefoot Truth is a young band to really watch out for! They’ve recorded a fantastic new album “Threads” which really shows a maturity in their writing and playing. Part Jason Mraz, part Sublime, with a little bit Rob Thomas and Northeast Jam Band thrown in! I was instantly impressed by the strength of the Threads song lineup, and I anticipate great things for these guys.” www.rocktheearth.org
