November 23, 2009 - San Francisco, CA — The Kingston Trio, the legendary folk/pop music group that helped launch the folk revival of the late 1950’s and 1960’s, proudly announce the ‘Back to Where It All Began’ Bay Area Christmas Tour 2009.  These four performances, in Cupertino (with a special matinee family concert), Santa Rosa, and San Francisco, mark a nostalgic return to the roots of where The Kingston Trio formed and first performed at the Cracked Pot, in Redwood City, in 1957.

The opportunity to see these world renowned musical icons live comes on the heels of an equally special moment in The Kingston Trio history; The release of their new Christmas album, "Glad Tidings," their first Christmas album since the release of "Last Month of the Year”, recorded nearly 50-years ago in 1960.

The Kingston Trio’s songs of "Glad Tidings" also appear as the soundtrack to the Christmas Special, “European Christmas Markets: Magic and Enchantment in the Medieval and Castle Towns of Europe,” scheduled for broadcast in the Bay Area on KRCB, cable channel 22, December 1, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. PST and December 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.  “European Christmas Markets” on DVD, as well as “Glad Tidings, will also be for sale at all Kingston Trio Bay Area performances, as well as on www.kingstontrio.com

The Kingston Trio, formed by college chums Bob Shane, Nick Reynolds and Dave Guard, went onto become the preeminent folk music group of the era, beginning with their 1958 debut release featuring the hit "Tom Dooley", which sold over three million singles.  Their massive record sales made acoustic folk music commercially viable, paving the way for singer-songwriter, folk rock, and Americana artists who followed in their wake.

The Two-time Grammy Winners released nineteen albums that made BILLBOARD's Top 100, fourteen of which ranked in the top 10, and five of which hit the number 1 spot.  In a feat yet to be surpassed, BILLBOARD Magazine listed four Kingston Trio albums in their Top 10 simultaneously.  As the musical and cultural phenomenon of their era, The Kingston Trio’s record sales and concert draws were matched only by The Beatles.  Some of The Kingston Trio’s most instantly recognizable hits include: “Tom Dooley,” “M.T.A,” “Scotch and Soda”, “Tijuana Jail,” “I’m Going Home (California),” and “Where Have All The Flowers Gone.” Today, The Kingston Trio consists of George Grove, Bill Zorn and Rick Dougherty.
