Warner/Chappell Music, the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group Corp., and one of the world's largest music publishers, announced that Steve Markland has been appointed to Vice President of A&R, Nashville. Effective immediately, Markland will report to Tracy Gershon, Senior Vice President and Head of A&R, Warner/Chappell Music Nashville.

Markland will work closely with Gershon in the signing of emerging and established songwriters, acquiring songwriter catalogs as well as in working to market and promote Warner/Chappell songs and songwriters to recording artists throughout the industry.

In making the announcement, Gershon said, "Steve is a wonderful addition to our growing Nashville team and I'm thrilled to welcome him on board. With more than 20 years of music industry experience, Steve has a solid track record in discovering and nurturing talented songwriters, and with successfully pairing songs with recording projects and artists. As a label executive, I grew to respect Steve's talent and dedication to the artists and the music with which he worked. I look forward to having him on our team as we continue to expand Warner/Chappell's Nashville footprint."

Prior to joining Warner/Chappell, Markland served 11 years as Vice President at Windswept Publishing where he was responsible for discovering and cultivating emerging songwriters, including Jeffrey Steele, who won multiple BMI and NSAI "Songwriter of the Year" awards. In addition, Markland managed a number of established songwriters, such as "Big" Al Anderson, 2000 BMI "Songwriter of the Year," Angelo, who has developed and co-produced albums recorded by Kings of Leon, Reed Nielsen, Randy Houser, and Kendall Marvel, among others.

Markland joined Windswept in 1996 as a Senior Director tasked with opening its Nashville office. Under Markland's leadership, Windswept won more than 50 BMI and ASCAP "Most Performed Songs" awards, including songs recorded by a number of Country music superstar artists including Word Records' Diamond Rio, Curb Records' artists LeAnn Rimes and Steve Holy, Rascal Flatts, Trace Adkins, Trisha Yearwood, Montgomery Gentry and Warner Bros. Records' artists Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, among others.

From 1993 to 1996, Markland was Director of Creative Affairs at Patrick Joseph Music in Nashville. In this role, Markland helped develop the careers of award-winning songwriters including Brett James, Matraca Berg, Tim Mensy, Randy Sharp, Vince Melamed and Jim Photoglo.

Prior to joining Patrick Joseph Music, Markland founded Coyote Moon Music where he was responsible for signing Brett James, who later went on to win the 2006 Grammy Award for "Best Country Song" for co-writing "Jesus, Take the Wheel" (recorded by Carrie Underwood).

From 1989-1990, Markland served as a Tape Room Operator at Warner/Chappell Music in Los Angeles and, prior to that, served as an A&R Assistant at RCA Nashville from 1987 to 1989 working under the tutelage of Mary Martin (Bob Dylan, Vince Gill) and award-winning producer Mark Wright who produced the hit song "I Hope You Dance" (recorded by LeeAnn Womack).

A native of Ohio, Markland began his career in the music industry as an intern at RCA Records while attending Belmont University in Nashville.
