Global Battle Of The Bands Beijing Final This Sunday 20 September!
Website: http://gbob.com/china The battle intensifies this Sunday in Beijing with the top 7 bands who successfully made it through the heats to compete for the title of Best New Band in the Global Battle of the Bands (GBOB) Beijing Final 2009. Beijing finalists bands are: Maggie Who, SSS, Out of Control, Metoo, Rustic, Paier 派儿乐队 and Boy Number 6. This is the first year that GBOB China have hosted events in Beijing and the interest is high. The GBOB Challenge is open to bands of all genres, playing two self-penned songs within the space of 8 minutes. The winning Beijing band will represent Beijing in the China Final on 7th November in Hong Kong and if they manage to grab the China final, will be flown to London, England for the World Final on 13 December and battling it out for the grand prize of US$100,000 in band development. Free flights to Hong Kong are courtesy of Dragonair and a brand new Gibson SG will also be presented to the winning Beijing band. Those attending this Sunday will see Beijing bands performing in various styles from acoustic to loud hard rock. The band Out Of Control's vocalist Scott Cheng "We are following our dreams and hope they come true" when asked why his band is participating in GBOB this year. Li Shi Dan from the band SSS said "We entered the competition because it is a great opportunity to hear other bands, other styles, and because it is a famous and international competition, and we want to get people talking about our band". Li Yan from the band Rustic said "Our dream is to play in London." Judges on 20 September will comprise music related professionals including Martin Rawlins (recording studio), Paul Fry (ex-manager of Cui Jian), Charlie Comenos (Midi School) and Zhao Nian (drummer, Tang Dynasty) The added excitement of niurenku.com filming the Beijing competition for a documentary on the Beijing bands taking part plus online voting at Hkgfm.net has escalated the excitement of the entire Beijing GBOB competition. 8pm start at Yugong Yishan, the venue hosting Beijing GBOB Heats and Final in 2009.
