Electronfarm Records Relases Chill Factor-5's "The Venus Effect"
"Chill Factor 5's previous album Sun Flower Jazz was nominated for a 2009 Grammy in the Electronica/Dance category, but constraining their style to such a genre doesn't qualify their unique trip-funk style." Elliott Townsend Chill Factor-5's hybrid sound spans across genres encompassing elements of electronica, downtempo, jazz, funk and soul. Crisp, warm and highly original, each track brings a breath of fresh air. Featuring the compositions, and live tracks of producer Maurice Oliver with major writing contributions from award winning artists multi-instrumentalist Vinnie Zummo [Joe Jackson, Art Garfunkle, Shawn Colvin, Roger Daltry, Paul Carrack, hundreds of commercials, and film, and TV credits] , Janice Zummo has been a featured song writer and singer on Guiding Light for the last 7 years. She appears to packed houses at the famed Blue Note in NYC and has written and sung hundreds of radio and TV commercials. Her albums include: So To Bed...So To Rise and Modern Marriage, and she is also featured on Vinnie Zummo's Swinging Guitar Sounds of Young America and Retro Cool Bossa Nova Christmas. John Bescup trumpet/flugelhorn Chill Factor-5 Chicago Afrobeat Project, Spacehorn 7000. Chill Factor-5's Maurice Oliver was born in Harlem, New York City. For many years he led rock, blues and jazz bands, performing around the East Coast in clubs, festivals & cultural events. While at The Julliard School of Music In Manhattan Maurice studied orchestral percussion, majoring in tympani and at The New School of Social Research he studied with such great artists as Oliver Lake, Sam Rivers, Karl Berger and Jimmy Guiffre. Maurice also studied electronic composition with John Watts, founder of The Composers Theatre in NYC. Living in Amsterdam for a few years provided Maurice an opportunity to perform and write music in other genres and collaborate with musicians from around the world. He learned to play West African drums, such as talking drum, djembe and baliphone with master drummer Babatundi Olatunji, and studied Afro-Brazilian rhythms with Airto, Ciro Baptista and Nana Vasconcelos on traditional instruments such as the quica, ago go, caxixi and berimbau. Jo Papo Dadiego brought expertise in Afro-Cuban music as well. Maurice founded the band, Rhythm Method, with his brother Steve. Rhythm Method was one of the first American bands to perform live at the Love Parade in Berlin and in New York City the band performed regularly at The Limelight, The Shelter, The Ritz and The Roxy. Working on numerous records, Maurice also wrote the song, "But You Must" for the Killing Zoe soundtrack, Milan Records/BMG. Their most acclaimed song, "Goa Season of the Monsoon" was included on the compilations, "United State of Ambience" on Moonshine Records and Trance Masters 2 on Vision Sound Carrier Records. Maurice gladly shares his time and expertise, working with various organizations such as the VIH No es Uno Banda de Rock Mexico Concert Series and Media Kids2020 - Visions and Strategies for a Preferred Future.
