MELODIS And Yamaha Team Up To Enrich Midomi.com, The World's Largest Database Of Searchable Music Of Its Kind

Bookmark and Share

Pioneering search and sound recognition company MELODIS Corporation announced that MELODIS and Yamaha Corporation, the world's largest manufacturer of musical instruments and a leader in digital audio, have teamed up to enrich the world's largest database of searchable music of its kind, available at midomi.com and midomi.co.jp. Through this new partnership agreement, Yamaha will allow MELODIS to use its VOCALOID singing synthesis software to create and incorporate thousands of authentic-sounding vocal recordings into the MELODIS midomi database.

"Music is constantly evolving, and we need our comprehensive music database to evolve along with it," said Kamyar Mohajer, Vice President of Strategy and Planning for MELODIS Corporation. "Yamaha VOCALOID will be an ideal complement to the original recordings contributed by our midomi.com users. By partnering with Yamaha, we can use a state-of-the-art vocal synthesizer to create new recordings from the lyrics and melodies already contained in our midomi database of music."

MELODIS's unique music search technology enables users to find songs by singing, humming, speaking, typing or playing original music sources into their mobile devices. When singing search results are returned, the user hears the exact portion of the song that matches the sample they entered, assuring them they have found the right song. This matching search capability is enabled by a unique dynamic transmission matching (DTM) algorithm developed by MELODIS, which aligns lyrics with melodies to ensure the timing for each musical block of text is correct.

Under the partnership agreement, Yamaha will be able to use MELODIS's DTM algorithm to enhance the alignment of lyrics and melody lines for its own VOCALOID offering.

"Our partnership with MELODIS is a win for both sides," said Richie Hasegawa, general manager of Center for Advanced Sound Technologies at Yamaha. "The DTM algorithm developed by MELODIS represents a breakthrough in enhancing the user experience with vocal-synthesized sound. Yamaha is impressed with the ‘out-of-the-box' thinking that enables MELODIS to align lyrics and melody lines so precisely, and return matched search results for users who enter very short samples. We are also confident that Yamaha VOCALOID software will add significant value to the midomi music database by allowing users to enjoy thousands of songs recorded using an authentic-sounding synthesized voice."
