Five Star Iris Teams Up With Fuse On Demand To Go "Live From Guantanamo Bay...."

Fuse On Demand, the free on demand service of Fuse TV network, has teamed up with the rock band Five Star Iris to present a unique look at how one band tours for the troops and what the experience is all about. The resulting piece, “Live From Guantanamo Bay….,” provides an up-close view of not only how a band tours to support America’s servicemen and women, but also takes a look at life in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, currently one of the most hot-button topics in media today. The program shows another side of both touring and life in the military, as well as performances from the band’s New Year’s Eve show on the base.

Five Star Iris has toured extensively for both Navy Entertainment and Armed Forces Entertainment, including a 25-day tour of Iraq and SW Asia, a Pentagon performance for the Air Force’s 60th Anniversary, and the South By Southwest Music Festival. When the band was offered the opportunity to perform at Guantanamo Bay for New Year’s Eve 2008, they jumped at the chance, and were thrilled that Fuse On Demand wanted to come along and document the trip. “For us, it’s not about politics,” says Alan Schaefer, lead singer for Five Star Iris. “It’s about giving these people who do what they do everyday just a little bit of a break. We’ve been fortunate enough to go to these types of places and get a look for ourselves at what’s really happening, and we were psyched that Fuse On Demand was able to come along for the ride.”

The special, shot over 4 days on location in Guantanamo Bay, with additional footage provided by Five Star Iris from their SW Asia tour, will begin airing nationally on Fuse On Demand in the “Exclusives” category starting Monday, May 5.
