Tiger Saw To Perform Original Score To World's Oldest Surviving Feature-Length Animated Film May 8 And 10, At The Coolidge Corner Theatre
Newburyport, MA-based musical collective Tiger Saw has been tapped re-imagine and perform the music to 1926 German cartoon The Adventures of Prince Achmed - the world's oldest surviving feature-length animated film. Tiger Saw will perform their score live to accompany screenings of the film Thursday, May 8 and Saturday, May 10, midnight, at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard Street, in Brookline, MA. Tickets are $10; for ticket information, visit www.coolidge.org or call 617-734-2501. The event is all-ages. The Adventures of Prince Achmed (Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed) is a 1926 feature-length animated cartoon by the German animator Lotte Reiniger. It is the oldest surviving feature-length animated cartoon, and it features a silhouette animation technique Reiniger had invented which involved manipulated cutouts made from cardboard and thin sheets of lead under a camera. The story is based on the elements taken from the collection 1001 Arabian Nights, specifically The Story of Prince Ahmed and the Fairy Paribanou. With the assistance of Aladdin, the Witch of the Fiery Mountain, and a magic horse, the title character battles the evil African sorcerer to win the hand of Princess Peri Banu. There will be an additional screening and performance Friday, May 16, and Saturday, May 17, 1:00 p.m., at the Ioka Theater, 55 Water Street, in Exeter, NH. Visit www.iokaentertainment.com. Tiger Saw is a musical collective founded in Newburyport, MA in 1999 by Dylan Metrano. It is an ever-changing group of friends, whose ranks can vary to form a hushed duet or fifteen-person orchestra. In 2000 and 2002, they wrote and performed their original score to F. W. Murnau's 1922 classic silent film Nosferatu. They have collaborated with Exit Dance Theater, and written music for various short films. For this production, Tiger Saw will include Metrano, Chris Barrett, Dylan Clark, and Erik Tans on a variety of instruments; including trumpet, guitar, bass, percussion, keyboards, and more.
