Eagle To Release Important New Duke Ellington/Ella Fitzgerald Set March 18 On DVD

The jazz world will get a belated Valentine when Eagle Rock Entertainment (through its wholly-owned Eagle Eye Media imprint) will release the latest edition of the Norman Granz Collection: a 2-DVD package (retail price: $19.98) of rare Ellingtonia.

The first disc—Duke Ellington At The Cote d'Azur With Ella Fitzgerald And Joan Miro—features an 11-song set by the Duke Ellington Orchestra, live in the South of France with guest vocalist Ella Fitzgerald. (Miro is an acclaimed French sculptor whose work adorns the outside of the venue).

The second disc—Duke: The Last Jam Session—features rare footage of Duke Ellington in one of his last ever concerts, playing piano like a man possessed, jamming with guitarist Joe Pass, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Louie Bellson, legends all.

Bonus features include "Nat Hentoff Presents Duke and Ella," a Photo Gallery and Portraits by David Stone Martin (disc #1), and Ray Brown's last interview (disc #2).
